The concert will be at the Casal de Catalunya (Catalonian Club) and will allow these Basque musicians from Arrecifes to come back and play for their loyal fans. The newly-formed group “Zutarriak,” will also perform Basque songs, and an opener for Maral. Without a doubt, music plays an important role at Euskaltzaleak activities that also recently celebrated a successful Triki-poteo that is now becoming a tradition in the neighborhood of San Telmo.

The workshops will begin today at 7pm at the Pastoral de Migraciones in Neuquen, and will be directed by the recently elected board of directors. These activities are just the beginning of a list of goals that the club has planned for the coming months, including their participating in the 2nd Meeting of Patagonian Basque Clubs and Semana Nacional Vasca.

The Etxepare Basque Institute, through its lectureship at the University ELTE, and the Cervantes Institute in Budapest have organized a conference dedicated to Basque culture that will take place on September 22-23. The program of activities includes various presentations on Euskera, literature and music, especially analyzing the relation between the Basque and Hungarian cultures. The conference will conclude with the showing of Loreak, a film by Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga.

Villa Maria’s Basque Cultural Week will begin on September 25, and will run all week with a program that includes religious ceremonies, exhibits, film and dinner, among other proposals. These activities, along with those organized by the club in this city in the Argentine province of Cordoba since the beginning of the year, are all part of the club’s 70th anniversary celebration.

The Euskaletxea in Lima, Pero is getting ready to celebrate 30 years of spreading the Basque culture in the Andean country. For this reason, the entity has organized a complete program of activities that begins on Monday with the showing of the film Loreak. There will also be music, dancing, euskera, food, mus and an anniversary meal that will conclude the festivities this Sunday.

Ancient Basque Music will be featured this weekend in Paris and over the coming months on various European stages thanks to Enrike Solinis and Euskal Barrokensemble, on a tour that will visit, France, Austria, Belgium, and Catalonia. This Saturday, September 17th the Basque musicians will visit Radio France, chosen by this prestigious broadcaster to give a concert that will be transmitted live all over France. Later they will come to Vienna, Turnhout, Barcelona, Bilbao...

The Etorritakoengatik Basque Club took over from the Euskal Txokoa in San Martin de los Andes and will be in charge of organizing the Second Meeting of Patagonian Basque Clubs. The meeting will take place from September 23-25, and while they are still working on the meeting agenda, the club reported they will participated in the “Madryn al Plato” festival.

The William A. Douglass Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno is looking for an Assistant Professor. Interested persons must have a Ph.D., preferentially in Economic Anthropology, or Economic History with a focus on the Basque Country and its cooperatives. Other considered disciplines include political science and gender studies. Deadline to apply is November 1, for the job that will begin no later than August 1st, 2017.

The Etxepare Basque Institute and the University of Bordeaux Montaigne have signed an agreement to create the Jean Haritschelhar Chair to support Basque studies. The Chair honors former president of Euskaltzaindia and will begin in 2017. The program will concentrate on literature and linguistics, as well as Iberian Studies, paying special attention to cross-border and international relations.
