The 39 World Championships of Mus of Basque Collectivities will begin tomorrow in Donostia, and will run through next weekend.  The event will take place mainly in Donostia, however some of the sessions will take place in Zarautz and Tolosa.  The first matches will be played on Sunday at the Kursaal Casino and the last ones on next week's Friday.  A entire program of visits was prepared to attend to muslaris as well as their companions during their stay in Euskadi.

Eyherabide-Martin will represent Argentina at the 39 World Mus Tournament that begins this weekend in Donostia

The 39 World Mus Championships of Basque Collectivities will begin this weekend in Donostia with the team of Alejandro Eyherabide and Eduardo Martín representing Argentina.  The federations in Argentina and the US are the two that gather the most muslaris during the qualification stages for this tournament.  In Argentina, Eyherabide and Martin are from Macachin, and won the National Tournament that took place in Laprida.

The Basque-Venezuelan community has been lucky lately, with various Basque descendants at the highest level.  Last week we talked about journalist, Ricardo Arambarri, and his Emmy, and today it is Asier Cazalis, from Caracas, with his group Caramelos de Cianuro (Cyanide Candies), who have been nominated for two Latin Grammys.  We will find out on November 17 if they win.

Udaleku 2016 in Uruguay, organized by FIVU took place September 16-18

Udaleku, or camp that was originally held during the summer months, took place all weekend and gathered representatives from the following Uruguayam Basque clubs: Ondoko Etxea, in Carmelo, Euskaro and Haize Hegoa in Montevideo.  Over the three days, with Carnival in the Basque Country serving as the theme, children and young adults enjoyed classes in Basque, dance, night games and bonfires.

This Saturday, Baiona will host genealogy and local history meetings with a fair and Diaspora participation

Baiona will host the third edition, Topaketak 3, of the Meetings of Genealogy and Local History organized by the associations GHFPBAM (Généalogie et Histoire des familles Pays Basque/Adour Maritime) and Antzinako (based in Iruña-Pamplona whose scope encompasses Araba, Bizkaia, Gipzukoa and Nafarroa).  The event will run from 9:30am-6:30pm and the Basque Diaspora will also be represented by the Euskal Argentina Stand as well as the exhibit Euskaldunen Argentina (Argentina of the Basques), among others.

Basque Trikitilari, Kepa Junkera, debuts a new show tomorrow “Sea of Bellows,” along with Argentine accordionist, Chango Spasiuk.  Both musicians will present a dialogue between the Basque Trikitixa and the Chamamé from Argentina.  EuskalKultura.com was also made aware that Junkera’s Argentina tour planned for November has had to be postponed due to booking conflicts.  We will let you know about the new dates, so that Basque clubs can reach out to Junkera to book future dates.

The PNV received a donation yesterday of the last portrait painted of Lehendakari Jose Antonio Agirre.  The portrait dates back to 1959 and was done in Caracas by Peli Irazabal, a Basque doctor who resided in Venezuela and who had a great fondness for painting.  It was his son, Jon Irazabal, who presented the painting to Andoni Ortuzar, President of the Euzkadi Buru Batzar.  The note was published in yesterday’s Deia.

The Ikastolas of Erentzun in Viana, and Ibaialde in Lodosa are getting ready for celebrating on October 16 of Nafarroa Oinez, the event for Ikastolas in Navarre.  Before the event, there are several teaser events leading up to that day including the song from Nafarroa Oinez 1992 that was celebrated in Viana: “Arraroa, noski,” sung by Bittor Aiape.  This new version, dedicated to minority languages, also includes the diaspora, with the dance group from the Euskal Etxea of Chile.

The “Euskalariak” event for Basque students and teachers organized by the Eusketxe in Buenos Aires was a succes

“Euskalariak” took place on September 24 at Lizarrenea, Mexico Street 1880 in the city of Buenos Aires

The invitation was very well-received and neighboring Basque clubs and Basque students and teachers from San Miguel, José C. Paz, San Nicolás and San Pedro joined those from the Eusketxe at its first “Euskalariak,” get-together, a day dedicated especially to Euskera.  The Eusketxe - Eusko Kultur Etxea Basque Cultural Center in Buenos Aires expressed its interest in making this an annual activity.

Today in Donostia, tribute to Juan Azkarate the last living member of the Auxiliary Navy of Euzkadi (1936-1939)

This year is the 80th anniversary of the creation in 1936, by the Basque Government, of the Auxiliary Navy of Euzkadi.  Juan Azkarate, its last living member, will be honored, at the age of 94, at the Naval Museum in Donostia as part of the program organized by the Naval Museum and the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa with the collaboration of the Association Matxitxako-Matxitxako Elkartea.
