These are the prizes for September's EuskalKultura.com raffle: a guided visit in Donostia, that includes Pintxo tasting in the Old Part; a CD with 18 children’s songs in Basque; “Gatz eta berakatz,” the latest CD by “Amuma Says No” from Boise, ID; the DVD “Leku hutsak, hitz beteak,” by Bernardo Atxaga in Basque with English subtitles, and the book "We are Basque-Argentines" by Magdalena Mignaburu and Josu Legarreta.

Encouraged by the first experience last year, the group from the Basque Country “Uzturre Munduan” have been teaching dance workshops over the last few weeks in Argentina. Two of these, sponsored by FEVA, took place in Bahia Blanca and Buenos Aires, and invited dantzaris from various Basque clubs. The others took place in Mar del Plata and Maipu and were organized by their respective clubs.

As every year, Basque descendants on the islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon celebrated their traditional Basque Festival, creating a lively atmosphere on the main plaza in Saint Pierre. The festival, organized by the Zazpiak Bat Basque Club and the Basque Pilota League, took place on August 13-21 with several activities, like a pilota tournament, Basque dancing performances, and rural Basque sports exhibitions with audience participation. The group Xutik came expressly from the Basque Country, to provide the soundtrack for the festivities.

The Pehuajo Basque club will participate in two ceremonies. In the morning, they will represent the community at an event that will take place at the Peace Arc as part of the commemoration of the International Day of Peace. In the afternoon, the event will take place at the Euskal Etxea where members and friends will plant a sapling and share a toast to celebrate the club’s birthday that will also pay tribute to Basque women.

Eusko Ikaskuntza has organized a day of reflection and debate on the Diaspora this Friday, September 23 in Baigorri, entitled, “The Diaspora of the Future: The Relationship that we’d like to have with the Basque Diaspora.” Participants will address and discuss the challenges faced by the Diaspora, its current reality and different proposals by groups to provide a future worthy of its brilliant past. Space is limited although there is still time to register.

As it has done for the last few years, Semana Nacional Vasco Argentina (Basque Argentine National Week) will also be the time when information about Basque classes for the next semester will be publicized. The organizers of the event have announced the contest rules for posters designed for this purpose. The deadline to send your ideas is October 27 and the prize will be a certificate, the diffusion of the chosen work, and the honor of having designed the image of Euskera in Argentina for the 2017 school year.

Berri Txarrak, one of the most international Basque music groups, will perform in Berlin tomorrow as part of their tour through Germany and Switzerland, with their album Denbora da poligrafo bakarra (2014). They will perform three concerts in Germany, in Berlin along with the Basque group, Belako, and one in Switzerland. Also, in December they will tour South American along with Descendents. Dates have been confirmed in Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Santiago, but more cities may be added.

The program presented today by the Provincial Government of Bizkaia includes nearly 300 free activities for the dissemination of cultural heritage that will take place during the month of October. Among these will be guided visits, conferences, exhibits, trade demonstrations, fairs, food, film, historic recreations, music, dance, sports, scientific conferences and seminars. In regards to Iceland, unknown details about the presence of Basque fishermen in Iceland will also be shared.

The community gastronomic patio has a place annually at the local Exhibition of Rural Society in Pergamino, province of Buenos Aires. Thanks to a large group of workers, the Lagun Onak Basque Club had a stand opened to the public over the five days from noon till the evening hours, satiating the curiosity and the public’s taste by providing them typical Basque dishes.

Last Sunday, September 9, the Basque Community of Chile Basque Club celebrated the Feast of the Virgin of Arantzazu with mass with the participation of the club’s Basque choir. In addition, the club also recently celebrated its 9th anniversary, where members and friends celebrated with a Basque dance performance.
