Deadline to apply is November 1. The William A. Douglass Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno is looking for an Assistant Professor. Interested persons must have a Ph.D., preferentially in Economic Anthropology; or Economic History with a focus on the Basque Country and its cooperatives. Other considered disciplines include political science and gender studies. The job will begin no later than August , 2017.

The Euskal Etxea in Mendoza will begin a new film series at the local Microcine: this Saturday they will be showing The Wolf followed one week later by We are all Guests, both are free and open to the public. The club, that is getting ready to hold its General Assembly on October 30, takes a look back through its past activities in EuskalKultura.com.

He is one of the 16 survivors of the 1972 plane crash in the Andes, when he was a 25 year-old rugby player, after surviving 72 days in the snow, and temperatures between -25 and -40 degrees Celsius. Tonight at 8:30pm, he will speak in person about this difficult experience, one of the less-talked about survival stories, while looking for his Basque roots on ETB’s program Origen.

This week there will be two activities about the Basque Country and its history in Germany organized by the German capital city's Euskal Etxea. The first takes place today, in Bremen, with a Basque Night organized with the collaboration of the French Institute. The second, on Saturday, in Berlin, with the presentation of the documentary Hurrengo geltokia (Next Stop) that includes the historic memory of the Franco years and repression in Legorreta, Gipuzkoa.

The well-known Basque dantzari is now touring Argentina where he will teach Basque dance workshops at a large number of euskal etxeak. The tour began at the Eusko Kultur Etxea in Buenos Aires, and continued to Ibaiko Izarra in Concordia for two-day workshops in both cases. The next stop will be this weekend in Corpus Christi, Misiones where dantzaris from the provincial capital city, Posadas will also participate.

The Tandil Basque club faces the last months of 2016 with a loaded program of activities. This Saturday they will host a traditional Pintxo Night/Basque Dinner. In November they will host a delegation from the Euskal Argentina Group in the Basque Country and will also participate in the Semana Nacional Vasca. On December 3rd they will end the year by celebrating International Euskera Day in conjunction with the club’s anniversary.

Madrid will be the site this weekend of the Annual Meeting of Basque language teachers at European Basque clubs. The event will be attended by some 20 teachers. The goal of the meeting is to share experiences, answer questions, and get resources, ideas and tools to improve classes.

The Eduardo Chillida Chair that the Etxepare Basque Institute supports at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universität in Frankfurt began its academic program this week with sculpture expert, Nina Schallenberg in charge. The program will run from October 16-February 27 and includes a workshop scheduled for January.

The Pringles Order indicates that a large audience attended the closing concert of the 20th International Choir Meeting “Coraliada,” at the parish of Saint Maria del Carmen in Necochea. Among the choirs participating was the Eusko Alaia choir from Coronel Pringles Basque club, that “received much applause and who also received a loud encore.”

He is incumbent of the Jon Bilbao Chair at the William A. Douglass Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno and researcher at the University of Deusto. Pedro Oiarzabal will give a talk tomorrow in Reno entitled, “The Fighting Basques: Basques of Nevada in WWII.” He also participated last Friday in the Oral History Association Annual Conference held in Long Beach, CA with a presentation on the “Ondare Bizia” project on Basque returning migration.
