Even if the activities have been taking place since the beginning of the year, the main event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Zingirako Euskaldunak Basque Club took place this weekend and gathered, not only local friends but also a large number of representatives from various euskal etxeas. During the two days there were different options for the community: the most successful, without a doubt, was the dance on Saturday that was attended by more than 400, and the lunch on Sunday with some 250 attendees.

Officials from the State of Nevada’s Office of Economics are currently visiting Bizkaia to find out more about the territory’s potential in electrical and automotive sectors. The Deputy General stressed that the visit was spurred by their first contact that took place last July in Washington DC during the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. Unai Rementeria has ensured that the provincial government continues to work to add new international visitors and promote opportunities for generating economic activity and employment.

Coronel Pringles once again recognized the immigrants who came to the this Argentine city and its area and did so with a program of activities that included the presence of authorities and a large audience. The local Euskal Etxea guaranteed a Basque presence at the official ceremony, raising an Ikurriña, as well as at the cantina and during the Queen selection, presenting its candidate. Among those honored was a Basque, former Mayor Joaquín Ricardo De Aduriz.

The Chilean Basque music and dance group, Hilario Olazaran, hasn’t stopped during the last three months participating in various activities where they have entertained during the winter months in Santiago de Chile. In July, for example, they took their music to the streets on the Feast of San Ignacio, then on August 20th they joined the International Folklore Day festivities. On September 3rd, they also participated in the Medieval Day, introducing Basque mythology.

Musician Kepa Junkera and the group Sorgiñak have recently presented a video clip of the song “Maletak” and we are thrilled to see that some dance groups in the Diaspora are already dancing to this Jota, along with many others in Euskal Herria and other places. Junkera asked his followers to send videos dancing to this piece, in order to be included in the video clip, and these Basque from the Diaspora didn’t think twice. Find them in the video!

Invited by the House of Culture in General Deheza, in the Argentine province of Cordoba, writer Marita Echave presented her book 'Cocina Vasca Campesina' (Country Basque Cuisine) as part of the 115th edition of the Patron Saint Festivities in the city. After the presentation, guests shared a Basque-Argentine stew prepared by the Echave herself.

The Basque Government has published the list of participants in the 2016 Gaztemundu program. The Resolution will go into effect after its publication in the Official Bulletin of the Basque Country. There are 25 participants from 23 Basque clubs, with 22 coming from Argentina, two from Chile and one from the US. Gaztemundu 2016 will take place October 1-16 based in Donostia-San Sebastian, organized by the Basque Culinary Center.

The tour program is still open for additional performances but confirmed performances include Buenos Aires on Saturday, November 5; Montevideo, on Wednesday 9; and at Semana Nacional Vasca on Friday the 11th. On their tour of the southern cone, the trio from Iparralde will perform for an hour and a half, with material from their albums Elementuak and b_aldeak.

For the fourth year in a row, the Euskal Juarez group represented the Basques in activities held in the city of Benito Juarez to celebrate another edition of the Day of the Immigrant. With the motto “Children for a World of Diversity,” and as part of the commemoration, Euskal Juarez was one of the participants in the Static Collectivities Exhibit, exhibited at the local J.J. Bernal Torres Library.

The initiative that emerged with the objective of contacting families of Basque origin in Roldan, took another step this year and has now reached South San Jeronimo, where they were very well received. The success of this second outing of “Door to Door,” encouraged members of the Euskel Biotza Basque club to include more towns in the area to the proposal. Along with this news, and with much joy, the club also let us know that 450 people gathered at its San Ignacio lunch.
