On the occasion of International Book Day, April 23, some Basque clubs have organized special activities to promote reading and especially Basque literature. One club with a lot of experience in this area is that in Barcelona, which has organized the literary festival Literaldia for years. There is also a contest that is part of the festival that encourages the creation of micro and macro stories via Twitter, in Basque and Catalan. In Australia they have another idea that is simple and effective: the Gure Txoko Basque club in Sydney has organized a poem reading in Basque as well as a book exchange among club members.

The documentary film "Emak Bakia Baita", by director Oskar Alegria Navarre, continues its international success with very positive reviews. In Madrid, for example, large audiences have come to the first three sessions offered at Matadero. Tomorrow, the documentary will also be shown in Bilbao, in the Gutun Zuria literary festival, presented by Alegria and writer Harkaitz Cano. In May, the documentary will be in Chiapas, San Francisco, Vancouver and San Francisco again, in a special screening at the Basque Cultural Center.

The Euzko Etxea Basque Center in Santiago Chile is in charge of organizing the World Mus Championships of Basque Collectivities 2013 that will take place in Puerto Varas, in the Chilean touristic region of Los Lagos. The tournament will be played from October 26-November 2 and besides card games, the participating delegations will also get a chance to know this beautiful area of the South of Chile with a varied program of activities and touristic visits.

The Paris and Bordeaux Basque clubs will provide the possibility to spend the weekend jumping from one Basque party to the next, since both organized Basque festivals on Saturday and Sunday. The activities will start in Paris, celebrating an evening of Basque dance and Basque-Catalan fellowship, with the Orok Betan festival. Eskualdunen Biltzarra from Bordeaux, on the other hand, will hold a Basque day in nearby Grandignan.

For another year the Basque Days in Poznan, or "Dni Baskijskie” in Polish, have arrived. The events, organized by the Basque lecturer supported by the Etxepare Basque Institute at the University, Adam Mickiewicz, “try to bring the culture out of the university and display it in the streets of the city,” as explained to EuskalKultura.com by lecturer Amaia Donés. This year, Basque Days will take place from April 23-25 with a program that includes Basque dance, bertsolaritza, film and music. In addition, the organizers have also put together a contest on their Facebook page. If you know Polish we encourage you to participate!

The community of Basques either born or linked to Venezuela, who are currently living in the Basque Country, has decided to celebrate its annual get-together on April 27. According to organizer Amaya Zenarutzabeitia, the event will take place in Galdakao, where, like every year, they will reconnect, share stories and strengthen friendships around the table.

The public school Bernart Etxepare, in Pamplona, has begun the campaign “Nik ere putz eginine dut!” (I will blow too), in hopes of spreading a message in favor of Euskera. Students and professors, as well as well-known people in Euskal Herria have already joined in the initiative that now seeks support from the Diaspora. It is really easy; all you have to do is record a video saying “Nik ere putz eginen dut! And then blow (putz egin means to blow). We at EuskalKultura.com encourage you to participate, so that kids in Euskal Herria can see that Euskera is far reaching.

One, a local Basque from Rosario, Argentina (Aguirre) and another from Donapaleu, in Behe Nafarroa (Etchegoyen) will perform a show on April 19 at the Ros Tower Hotel in Rosario that is unique since it brings together both sides of the Atlantic, and two artistic expressions: gastronomy and music. The Argentinean chef will prepare a typical menu while the public will enjoy the voice of Anne Etchegoyen and her repetoire in Euskera, French and Spanish. During her show tour through Argentina, Etchegoyen will also perform at the Salta y Resto Restaurant in Buenos Aires and at the Aberri Eguna celebration at Rosario’s Zazpirak Bat Basque club.

Amsterdam will become a showcase of Basque film from April 30 to May 6. Two young Spanish people who work in the city have completed the project: a week dedicated to Basque film entitled, “Epa! Film Week” where 8 feature-length films and various shorts produced in the Basque Country can be seen. A lot of work has been done in hopes that it will be a total success so that next year, more Basque films can also be seen in Holland’s capital.
