The Euzko Etxea of Necochea gathered past dancers from the 40s to the 90s at an event

Dancers of all ages dancing in Necochea (photo EE) Representatives of all ages were invited to participate in the Former Dantzaris Festival at the Euzko Etxea in Necochea. The event was extremely successful and gathered members of the Basque club dance groups from the last 60 years. As part of the event, old costumes and photos were exhibited. There was also a game of question and answer that sparked memories of anecdotes and moments shared. There was also a souvenir presented to those dantzaris present. After the dinner, the dance lasted into the night.

Basque artist Alain Urrutia will open his exhibit “Gazing Again” in Beijing this Friday

An image from the "Gazing Again" exhibit (photo Alain Urrutia) Thanks to the scholarship “Goazen Txinara/Let’s go to China,” supported by the artistic study of Beijing MA Studio and in collaboration with the Etxepare Basque Institute, Alain Urrutia, painter from Bilbao, has had the opportunity to spend several months working in China. Now his exhibit will open in Beijing, where he will show some of the work completed during his stay. The show will open this Friday and can be seen through June. It is the first exhibit by an individual participating in this program.

The Basque Government appoints Ibon Mendibelzua Madariaga as the new Delegate of Euskadi in Mexico

Ibon Mendibelzua (center) as Delegate of Euskadi in Brussels (photo Artechmedia.net) In yesterday’s Governing Council meeting, which was pushed ahead due to the Lehendakari’s trip to Brussels, Ibon Madariaga was named the new Delegate of Euskadi in Mexico. With this appointment, the Basque office in this North American country regains its Delegation since in the prior organizational chart, the prior administration had made this office dependent of the Delegation of Euskadi in New York.

HABE publishes 'Gramatika gaitasuna lantzen' on the web, a PDF and online exercises to work on Basque grammar

'Gramatika gaitasuna lantzen' now available in PDF on Ikasbil Ikasbil, by HABE, now provides a new resource to learn and practice Euskera online that can be very useful for students in Euskal Herria as well as those in the Diaspora. It is a book in PDF format called Gramatika gaitasuna lantzen, from level 3 (C1), complete with a series of exercises that can be done and corrected easily online. Ikasbil has also published a reading guide for Basque students ranging from levels A1 to Level 4.

The Chillida Chair in Frankfurt shares the work of the wonderful Basque sculptor from Donostia

At the right, Ana Maria Rabe, along with the Chillida family at a tribute paid him in Berlin (photo museochillidaleku.com) The Eduardo Chillida Chair is underway, sponsored by the Etxepare Basque Institute at the Goethe University in Frankfurt that, in its first year, has Dr. Ana Maria Rabe as the invited scholar. Rabe, an expert on Chilida, will be in charge of teaching two seminars on the art of this Donostia native that will last through the beginning of July. The goal of the chair is to publicize Basque art and, in particular, the vast artistic creation of Chillida, within the framework of University studies.

Lehendakari Urkullu will meet Van Rompuy and Durao Barroso tomorrow in Brussels

Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu (photo Irekia) Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu will meet with the heads of the European Institutions during a two-day trip to Brussels. Tomorrow he will meet with Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the Commission; with Joaquin Almunia, Vice-President and Commissioner of European Competency; and with the Commissioner of Internal Affairs, Ceclia Malmstron. Tomorrow, Urkullu will be welcomed by Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council. In addition, the Lehendakari will host a reception for the Basque community in Brussles at the headquarters of the Delegation of Euskadi, with members of Brussels’ Basque club members attending, among others.

Asier Vallejo, Director for the Basque Community Abroad, attended NABO's Spring meeting in Salt Lake City in February (photo EuskalKultura.com) Asier Vallejo Itsaso, the Basque Government’s Director for the Basque Community Abroad, arrives in Argentina today, as part of his trip to South America that will last until the end of next week. Vallejo started his trip last Wednesday in Chile, accompanied by the Delegate of Euskadi for Chile, Rafael Kutz. During his stay in Argentina, followed by visits to Uruguay and Brazil, he plans to meet with various Basque clubs and national federations, accompanied in this case by the Delegate of Euskadi for Argentina-Mercosur, Sara Pagola.

Four Basque-themed books and the traditional Basque stand at the 39th Buenos Aires Book Fair

The Basque stand at the book fair (photo EuskalKultura.com) Thanks to the Juan de Garay Foundation, FEVA and Eusko Jaurlaritza, the Basque community will once again participate at the end of this month in the Buenos Aires Book Fair, which has reached its 39th year. With this year’s motto “Books are bridges,” the international exhibit will take place from April 25-May 13 and will include, at its heart, the traditional Basque stand, located this year at 1908 in the Yellow Pavilion. During the fair, four Basque-themed books will be presented: 2012 List of Basque Families and Protagonism in Argentina; The Institute of Basque Studies; Martin de Alzaga and Basque Cuisine.

The Park of Basque Adventure in Quebec will celebrate a Basque festival June 15-17

Welcome sign at the Park of Basque Adventure in Quebec The Park of Basque Adventure in America located in Trois Pistoles, Quebec, is an open-air museum dedicated to the imprints made by Basque whalers on the Atlantic coast of North America. In June, they will inaugurate a new museum, and to celebrate it, they have organized a cultural festival on June 15-17. In addition to the festival, a group of rowers from the Basque Country will be visiting as part of the Indianoak expedition that is traveling the St. Lawrence River from Trois Pistoles to Montreal. The park is inviting Basques in America to join in the festivities.
