The Ibaeta Abesbatza, from Donostia will give two concerts in Paris this weekend

Donostia's Ibaeta Abestbatza (photoIbaetabesbatza.com) Ibaeta Abesbatza will travel to Paris tomorrow where they will give two concerts organized with the collaboration of the Gernika Abesbatza choir and Jean Mari Guezala, director of the Anaiki choir and of the Eskual Etxea in Paris. The first concert will take place on Saturday at the Saint-Louis-en L'Île church, near Notre Dame, while the second will take place on Sunday at Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours de Asnières, at mass celebrated by Fr. Felix Ibarrondo, originally from Oñati, a noted contemporary music composer. The day will end with a meal at the Eskual Etxea with the Gernika Abesbatza and the Anaiki choir.

An authentic Triki-poteo in the heart of Buenos Aires, organized by Euskaltzaleak

Beginning of the Triki-poteo route in Buenos Aires (photoEE) More than 100 people gathered last Saturday, invited by the Buenos Aires Euskaltzaleak Basque language school, to participate in the first Triki-poteo to be held in the capital. The event began around 7pm and generated a special atmosphere in the San Telmo district, where the group traveled. Trikitixas, albokas and panderos as well as gaitas, violins and guitars from the Scottish community, filled the streets and bars with music, song and dance giving them a little taste of the Basque custom that organizers hope to make a regular event.

The tenth anniversary of Vascosmexico filled the Alaia Restaurant, in Mexico City, with nay friends and lots of joy

Jaione Arrieta (black) founder of Vascosmexico with Ibon Mendibelzua, Delegate of Euskadi in Mexico, and Begoña Jauregui and Eduardo Ormaechea at the anniversary celebration (photoVascosmexico) The Vascosmexico group, a virtual meeting place in a wide Basque community in this North American country celebrated its first 10 years last Saturday the 19th with a big party that took place at Alberto Ituarte’s Alaia Restaurant. The get-together was very animated, as this group’s activities usually are, attended by friends and in some cases; this was the first face-to-face meeting for some after exchanges messages online. One of those, for example, was Ibon Mendibelzua, the new Delegate of Euskadi in Mexico City. The gallery of photos of Vascosmexico includes a large photo chronicle of the evening.

Second day of EHMG with moderator William Douglass and presenter Anna Mari Aguirre who spoke about three Basque generations in NY (photo EuskalKultura.com) Last Friday we left our chronicle of the week-long activities in New York commemorating the Centennial of the local Basque club with an announcement of the celebration of the second and last day of the Euskal Herria Mugaz Gaindi (EHMG) Seminar on history and research on the Diaspora. The next day, Saturday, October 12th, the Fall NABO meeting was held at the Eusko Etxea that concluded after lunch with Lehendakari Urkullu. Photo chronicle (III).

La Plata took the Mus and Pringles the Tortilla Contest in the first edition of “Between Land and Sea”

"Between Land and Sea" was co-organized by Tres Arroyos Hiru Erreka and Pampa Vasca (photoEE) The first edition of the Basque Gastronomic Fair “Between Land and Sea” was organized by Hiru Erreka and Pampa Vasca in Tres Arroyos in the south of the province of Buenos Aires, with the collaboration of various groups in San Francisco de Bellocq. The festival gathered more than 400 people who could enjoy a rural touristic experience adorned with typically Basque events like Mus Championship and a Tortilla contest. Members of the Tres Arroyos Basque club would like to thank the Pringles and La Plata clubs for their participation and are hoping to organize the event again next year.

Lizarzaburus from each side of the Atlantic ready for a reunion at the original family farmhouse in Lizartza

The Lizarzaburu family has a large number of descendants in countries like Peru, Ecuador, the US, Brazil and Mexico that has become reacquainted over the last few years thanks to the internet and new technology and they have formed a family group called the Lizarzaburu Klan. Now, along with family members in Euskal Herria they are organizing a reunion in their place of origin, in the farmhouse of the same name of the Gipuzkoan town Lizartza, in September 2014.

Here is the first part of a photo chronicle that we will continue in the coming days with a review of the entire week and its commemorative events.

After more than 50 years in the family’s hands, the Ascuaga’s sell the Nugget Hotel/Casino in Sparks, Nevada

John Ascuaga, owner of the Nugget Hotel/Casino and a portrait of the Orozko Restaurant (photo EuskalKultura.com) The Nugget Hotel/Casino, in Sparks, Nevada run by Basque John Ascuaga and his family for the last 58 years, was sold and will change hands to a company that manages other casinos. The casino, a large building with two towers and various restaurants inside, was in its day the economic motor for the city of Sparks which adjoins Reno. Ascuaga and his family have stood by their commitment to the local community which received the news of its sale with regret.

Monday’s Columbus Day Parade concludes the New York Basque club’s Centennial festivities

Photo from Sunday's Gala at the Midtown Loft where Iban Ubarretxena, club vice-president speaks (photo EuskalKultura.com) Last night, Sunday, in a room on 5th Avenue in New York the Centennial Gala was held, the climax of the events organized by the local Basque club in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of its foundation (1913-2013). The culmination of the events includes a call to take to the streets of Manhattan in the popular Columbus Day parade in which there will be representation of the local Basque club, NABO, the Basque Government, musicians and dancers who will take part in this massive display.
