The VascosMexico group will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a huge fiesta in the Alaia on October 19

Image from the 2005 VascosMexico get together (photo Vascosmexico.com) According to Jaione Arrieta Galarraga, founder and soul of the VascosMexicanos group, who has been in charge of the network for 10 years, the event will take place at the Alaia Restaurant in Mexico City on October 19. The original idea was to get Mexican Basques and Basques living in Mexico in touch with each other through a mailing list and the list has become so active that it has become a website and an association with the same name. The event promises to be huge and anyone wanting to participate should RSVP soon.

Saint Michael will also be celebrated in Oregon where the Ontario Basque Club prepared a great festival with Kalakan

Kalakan The Ontario Basque club has prepared a complete program of activities to celebrate Saint Michael this Sunday and fill the city with music, food and Basque atmosphere. Kalakan will also join from the Basque Country. They are a Basque music trio that recently concluded touring with Madonna. The group is now touring the US where they will perform at various Basque clubs. Besides, their concert, the festival will include a procession, rural sports, dance and various contests.

The Artzain Amerikanoen Besta 2013; Donibane Garazi became the capital city of US Basques

Maitexa and Mattin Etchamendy performing during the festivities (photo EuskalKultura.com) It doesn’t appear on any American maps but last weekend it could have; Donibane Garazi was converted last Saturday into the meeting point for a multitude of folks from both sides of Nafarroa who once lived in the US and after years of working as sheepherders returned from the US to settle permanently in the Basque Country. They haven’t forgotten that experience that marked their lives. It was a day full of emotions, reunions, and memories organized by the Euskal Artzainak Ameriketan Association.

Many of them will soon begin to apply what they learned in the classes and will teach others to play the txistu, tambourine, alboka, trikitixa…Their stay in the Basque Country was two intense weeks full of classes, rehearsals, concerts, trips and new friends. Eusko Etxea of New York’s Centennial Celebration Program October 7-14

Centennial Program The program includes the open sessions of the Bernardo Atxaga Chair at CUNY (City University of New York), talks at Columbia University and the clubhouse as part of the “A History of the Basques in New York” conference and more festive and commemorative events including mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral celebrated by Bishop Josu Iriondo, a Centennial Gala and participation in the Columbus Day Parade. Lehendakari Urkullu is expected to attend along with the Deputy General of Bizkaia, Jose Luis Bilbao, as well as artists, Kalakan, Amuma Says No, Soprano Amaia Arbera, and Zortzi by Christophe Pavia and Adelaide Daraspe.

NABO Calendars will travel to Argentina, the Basque Country and the US

2014 NABO Calendar The drawing took place yesterday for five 2014 NABO calendars that will leave shortly for their destinations in Argentina(2), the US (2) and one will stay in the Basque Country even though entries came from these countries as well as others like Mexico, Chile, Brazil, France, Colombia, Canada, Spain, Italy, Germany, England and Uruguay.

Mexican-Basques celebrate “El Grito” in Euskal Herria; Athletic’s Mexico City fan club gathers to see the debut of San Mamés

Shot from the Mexican-Basque meal in the Basque Country We have heard about various activities from both Mexico and the Basque Country carried out by Mexican-Basques. One the one hand a group of Basques originally from Mexico but who now reside in the Basque Country celebrated “El Grito” or Mexico’s Independence day with a meal that took place in Gordexola. Maitena Jauregui shared the events of the day. In addition, in Mexico a large group of Athletic’s fan club there gathered at the Mexico City Basque club last Monday the 16th to see the first game to take place at the new San Mames Stadium. The atmosphere, of course, was full of red and white! In addition, yesterday food was collected for the victims of floods in Guerrero at the Basque club.

Kirmen Uribe will participate in several literary events this weekend in New York

Kirmen Uribe during one of his visits to NY in Central Park (photoCosmopolitananuevayork.blogspot.com.es) Basque writer, Kirmen Uribe, will visit New York City this weekend in order to participate in various literary events. On Friday September 20 he will participate at an event at CUNY (City University of New York) where two speakers will discuss their literary work. On Sunday, Uribe will read some of his poetry in the heart of the Brooklyn Book Festival and will participate in the roundtable with other writers. On Monday he will give another recital at the Bowery Poetry Club.

Berlin’s Basque club has a new board; Ainhoa Añorga reelected as its president

One of its first activities was the celebration, on September 13, of its annual general assembly. The event included elections for the new board, where Ainhoa Añorga Osa, from Donostia, was reelected club president. Along with her, Constanze Lindemann and Lourdes Eizaguirre were voted in as vice-presidents.

The Basque market organized by Bordeaux’s Euskal Etxea drew a lot of visitors and was a great time

The Kuxkuxtu Txaranga entertaining everyone on the Quai Richelieu (photo BordeleEE) The Bordeaux Basque club gathered numerous friends and many curious people in the Basque Fair that it held on the river bank at the Quai Richelieu. The event provided locales the possibility to get to know and taste Basque food, as part of the Heritage Day event. The Kuxkuxtu txaranga also attended from Urruña and enlivened the festival with its music and song. There was also an exhibition of Basque rural sports that gathered a large number of spectators among other events.
