Basque-American Mattin Etchamendy presented his autobiography in Ezterenzubi yesterday

The autobiographical book talks about his life, where Ezterenzubi, the country, and the culture that he was born into are always present, although today from a Basque-American perspective with family, children and grandchildren born in in the States, to whom he has transmitted his experiences in the past that give rise to the present and future for members of the Basque Diaspora.

Gaztemundu 2013 participants rowed in Pasaia and visited Gernika on the weekend

Gaztemundu participants rowing in Pasaia (photo Gaztemundu) This year’s training program, Gaztemundu is progressing with great atmosphere, and a very high level of talent, as this year’s program is dedicated to music. Selected participants arrived with much skill, many having formal musical training, which is helping them take full advantage of classes provided. Between lessons, the musicians also have a little time to visit and get to know Euskal Herria better. On Saturday, in Pasai San Pedro, they rowed the trainera Ameriketatik, paid for by the Basque Diaspora, and on Sunday they visited Gernika. The program ends this Saturday.

First edition of the Basque Gastronomic Festival “Between Land and Sea,” on October 6 in Tres Arroyos

Festival invitation The Hiru Erreka Basque club and the Basque Pampa Group invite you to participate in a festival that will take place on the first weekend of October in San Francisco de Bellocq, near Tres Arroyos, Argentina. The events will begin on Saturday, but the main activities will take place on Sunday coinciding with the end of the Mus tournament, Tortilla contest, and dance and music performances among others. The goal is to create a completely Basque atmosphere and so organizers have invited neighboring clubs to join in the fiesta. The definitive program will be published once participants’ responses are received.

A conference on Basque Culture begins today at the Library of the Argentinean Congress in Buenos Aires

After last year's successful conference, this year's will begin today a tthe Biblioteca del Congreso (photo Biblioteca del Congreso de la Nación) The Cultural Center of the Library of the Argentinean National Congress in Buenos Aires will host a conference on Basque culture today through September 27. The event will include talks, workshops and film showings along with an exhibition of Basque artists. Conference opening will take place at 18:00 with the singing of Gernikako Arbola in the company of representatives of the Basque Government and that of the Basque-Argentinean community.

Group of Basque musicians that will perform this weekend: Pier Pol Berzaitz, Estitxu Pinatxo, Erramun Martikorena, Magali Zubillaga and Joxan Goikoetxea Paris will enjoy a Basque weekend at the Espace Jemmapes where a Basque gastronomic fair has been organized thanks to the growers’ associations Amalur and Lurlan. Tastings and sales will be enlivened by two Basque music concerts by Pier Pol Berzaitz, Estitxu Pinatxo, Magali Zubillaga, Erramun Martikorena and Joxan Goikoetxea who will perform “Egunsentiaren kantuak” (The Songs of Dawn).

Accordionist Iñaki Dieguez will begin his California tour in Santa Barbara on Sunday

Iñaki Dieguez fuses fandango and bossa nova on his new album "Birak" Basque musician Iñaki Dieguez will give three concerts in California starting this Sunday as part of his two-week tour. Dieguez will present his album Birak (Tours), done after his experience of touring the worked for three years with “Cirque de Soleil.” The first concert will take place on Sunday in Santa Barbara followed by Chino and San Francisco. In Chino he will provide a special performance with Zuberotar singer, Benito Zubeldia, with whom he will get the entire Basque club singing.

Job opportunity: the online broadcaster Radiokultura is looking for a journalist to do radio coverage

Radiokultura's website Radiokultura is an online radio created in 2005 that offers Basques around the world the possibility of hearing Basque music, news in Euskera and French as well as providing free Basque classes online. The broadcaster has recently published a job opening: it is looking for a young journalist to do radio reporting. The contract could be for 12 or 36 months and candidates must be fluent in both Euskera and French. Applications should be sent by September 14.

Exhibitions, choir meetings and conferences at the 2013 Semana Vasca in the Basque Collectivity of Chile

The board of directors and club members at the inauguration of the "Euskal Erakusketa" exhibit (photo Colectividad Vasca Chile) During the month of August, the Basque Collectivity of Chile celebrated Semana Vasca 2013, where this Basque club carried out various activities to disseminate the Basque culture in the city of Santiago. The week took place from July 30-August 4, and was enjoyed by a large audience especially at the choir get-togethers, and at the talk given by historian Miguel Laborde.

The book analyses the poetic and novelistic work of Uribe as well as his multimedia shows.

Basque descendants from Pigüé, in the Buenos Aires Province, dine once a month at the Café-Restó Navarra

Images from the monthly dinners (photosEE) Located 600km southwest of the Argentinean capital, the city of Pigüé doesn’t have a Basque club for now. That is why a small group of Basque descendants have started monthly meetings to lay out the groundwork for the creation of a club. “Even though putting together a commission or forming an institution isn’t the priority right now, the goal for this year is to get the most Basques together in order to better understand our history and our roots,” Veronica Olleta explains to EuskalKultura.com. The meetings take place the third Monday of the month at the local Navarra Café-Restó.
