The Basque club in Rosario will present the book, Salbador Juaquin Ezpeleta, about this Basque pioneer

Cover of the book to be presented at the Zazpirak Bat in Rosario The event will gather various local cultural references including scholar Roberto Bereciartua, artist Dolores Moline and speaker Luis Albornoz. Under the direction of journalist Cecilia Oberti, the book Salbador Juaquin Ezpeleta, by Juan Carlos Gonzales will be presented this Friday, October 5th, at the Zazpirak Bat Basque club in Rosario. Included in this open invitation to the event is a review of the latest activities that the “Zazpi” has carried out including volleyball, film and San Ignacio.

Gure Txoko in Valladolid, Spain took to the streets to celebrate its first Euskal Jaia

Gure Txoko's choir singing in front of the Santo Dominigo de Guzman parish (photo ValladolidEE) Last Sunday, September 29, the Gure Txoko Basque club in Valladolid, Spain celebrated a Basque Festival, Euskal Jaia, for the first time with a series of activities that tried to bring the Basque culture to the streets and make people aware of it in this Spanish city. The Basque club choir sang in the morning in the Santo Domingo de Guzman parish, and then visited some of the central sites in the city such as the Plaza Mayor (Main Square) where they also sang. The day concluded with a meal at the Basque clubhouse with everyone being very satisfied with the event.

Basque cinema in San Miguel thanks to the Askatasunaren Bidea: this Saturday, “Secretos del Corazon”

Celebrating Askatasunaren Bidea's fourth anniversary (photoEE) In Argentina, Askatasunaren Bidea has been spreading the Basque culture in San Miguel, Muñiz and Bella Vista for four years. With this goal in mind, it organizes activities like talks, meetings and get-togethers in public spaces and outside. The institution also provides a Euskera workshop and keeps in touch with members and friends through a blog where it publishes articles on Basque culture, especially current events and the history of Navarra. This weekend it invites everyone to a film event where Secretos del Corazon (Secrets of the Heart) will be shown at the Historic Museum in San Miguel.

North American Basque Associations (NABO) seeks a Basque Language Coordinator

Euskara teachers at a workshop organized by NABO in 2010: Henar Chico, Goisalde Jausoro, Gloria Lejardi, Aitzol Azurtza, Anita Anacabe, Mikel Oteiza, Itxaso Kaiero, Bernadette Leonis, Izaskun Kortazar and Ibon Izurieta After many years of service, Izaskun Kortazar has made the decision to step down from the position of Basque language coordinator that she has held since its inception, and NABO has published a call for applications to fill the post. All applicants must be a member of a NABO organization and be legally eligible for employment in the United States in order to apply.

EH Sona! Basque Music Festival in Barcelona is loaded: Berri Txarrak, Bide Ertzean, Gatibu, Gose…

Euskal Herria Sona! 2013 event poster The Barcelona Basque club has published this year’s program for Euskal Herria Sona! Great program that as in previous editions, includes a loaded lineup of various styles of music. It will take place from October 25 through December 5, and will present Barcelona with Basque groups working on various styles such as: rock ska, pop, country, blues, electronic music, reggae…the roster also includes groups like Berri Txarrak, Gose, Gatibu, Bide Ertzean, Kokein, korrontzi and Sutagar, among others.

The Diaspora in mourning: Pete Cenarrusa “The Champion of the Basques,” passes away in Idaho at the age of 95

A beacon for the Basque Diaspora, Basque supporter who contributed, thanks to his reality and position in the US, in favor of the people, language, and culture, a sentiment that was transmitted to him by his Bizkaian parents. His political career began in 1950 when he was elected to the Idaho House of Representatives, where he would later be selected Speaker of the House. In 1961 and for the next 36 years until January 2003, he served as the Secretary of State of Idaho. The force behind the unanimous support of the State of Idaho’s institutions for the “democratic rights of the Basques,” in Boise the Cenarrusa Foundation continues his work today in favor of the Basque culture. Gogoan Bego. He was a great Basque and a good friend.

Painter Carmelo Ortiz de Elgea exhibits his American West landscapes in Nevada

This weekend, an exhibit by Basque painter, Carmelo Ortiz de Elgea, will open at the Nevada museum of Art in Reno. Ortiz de Elgea is one of the most prominent Basque painters today and has been a great influence on the modernization of Basque painting. In 2011, he traveled through California and Nevada, invited by anthropologist and euskaltzale, Bill Douglass, and was impressed by the landscapes and the immensity of the American West.

Basque and Scottish sounds mingled this weekend at the Hotel of Immigrants in Buenos Aires

Sounds of the Basque Country and Scotland mingled in a number of songs from both countries (photo EuskalKultura.com) As part of the celebrations that have taken place in September as part of Immigrant Day, the Festival of Communities was held this weekend in Buenos Aires organized by the Argentinean Minister of the Interior at the Hotel of Immigrants. The institutions guaranteed the Basque presence: the Ekin Dantzari Taldea, the Euskaltegi Euskaltzaleak and the Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea. More than 40 communities participated in the event this year, including the Scotch, whose representatives came to the Basque txoko to share their music.

After the Festival of Communities, Gure Etxea in Tandil announces its Gran Romeria for November

Tandil dancers at the 23rd Festival of Communities (photoEE) The Tandil Basque club in the Argentine province of Buenos Aires is experiencing great activity and will keep up this pace until the end of the year. Last weekend, the club participated with dancers and a stand at the 23rd Festival of Communities in the city. The next events include FEVA’s Txiki Gathering this Saturday and Semana Vasca November 8-10. Also in November, supported by the success of the 2012 event, they are also organizing another Dance Gathering, in the old Basque style. The event will take place on Saturday the 23rd at 19:30pm after a danborrada.

Basque Studies at BSU hosts open house on Monday September 30th

Basque Studies' open house will be next Sep 30th The Basque Studies Program at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho is hosting an open house on Monday September 30th along with its host departments World Languages and History; all are invited. The event will include a performance by Kalakan Basque music trio, a debut of the “Boise River Mural,” as well as tours of new offices in the various departments.
