France won the XXXVI World Mus Championship held in Puerto Varas, Chilean Patagonia

Group photo taken of the participants in the 2013 World Mus Tournament held in Puerto Varas, Chile (photo SantiagoEE) The 2013 World Mus Championship took place among volcanoes, snowfall, and Mus games in Puerto Varas, Chile. The organization in charge was the Euzko Etxea of Chile that surprised the participants with the beauty of the setting of its headquarters. There were 14 teams from 12 countries including: Argentina, Australia, Canada, Spain, Euskadi, Mexico, France, Peru, Uruguay, U.S.A., Venezuela and Chile. The winning team was Ramuntxo Ondart and Thierry Olaizola, members of the Bordeaux Basque club representing France. Zorionak!

Basque dance and gastronomy excel once again at the Festival of Communities in Bariloche

This year's Festival of European-Argentinean Communities will conclude on November 10th (photoIgnacioEzquerra) The 34th edition of the Festival of European-Argentinean Communities in Bariloche, Patagonia kicked off last weekend and will conclude next weekend, on November 10th. The festival takes place at the Danish Club in Dina Huapi and gathers a large number of communities that provide music and dance performances as well as typical dishes. As every year the Mendiko Euzko Etxea was once again committed to represent the Basque Country: they are doing it better and better from its tables and booths. “After an excellent start, the festival will continue until next Saturday at noon…and with surprises in our txoko, in regards to food offerings,” Hector Graña, club member told EuskalKultura.com.

Basque Cultural Day in San Francisco celebrates Basque and Gaelic culture with the documentary Gazta Zati Bat

Promotional video for the BEO Basque Cultural Day based on the theme "Gaelic Zati Bat" This year’s edition of the Basque Cultural Day, organized annually by the Basque Educational Organization, was inspired by the documentary Gazta Zati Bat, with hints of Basque, Irish and Scottish. Stemming from the documentary, the BEO has programmed an original roster of talks on such diverse themes as how to make chees, Basque dance, and self-determination; a Basque, Scottish and Irish dance exhibit; a dinner among the three communities that will surely have an unbeatable atmosphere.

Basque conference at the University and a Film Series at the Basque club, thanks to Zazpirak Bat in Rosario

Conference and Film Series promotional poster A conference was held as part of the Basque Chair at the College of Humanities and Arts in Rosario, aimed at generating a space to reflect on the current political situation in the Basque Country. That is how the Zazpirak Bat Basque club began its broad program of activities that will develop alongside the University’s. Coinciding is the Basque film series, organized by the club that is also moving right along. The next dates are Thursdays, November 14 and 28, with Lovers of the Arctic Circle and Cows by Julio Medem.

Pedro Oiarzabal publishes, "The Basque Diaspora Webscape" about the presence of Basque clubs online

Oiarzabal, of the University of Deusto, has published The Basque Diaspora Webscape, thanks to the Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno. The work, currently only available in English, provides an exhaustive study of the virtual side of the Diaspora, in a world that is in constant evolution and growth, since the birth of the first club sites until today. “The internet is an ephemeral world, and with this study, I wanted to leave a record of the development of the digital diaspora,” says the author.

After the “Balda” and “Rio” Cups, there are a book on Xare in Argentina and a documentary to come

The Tournaments took place from October 21 to 25 (photo Mora Elizalde / Emiliano Elías)  The Xare Cup tournaments “Basilio Balda” for youth and the “Vicente del Rio” were played in Buenos Aires and La Plata respectively having great impact on the local audience. The championship gathered 25 teams from Europe and South America and allowed this type of Basque pilota, which also has a long history in Argentina, to be shared. Organizers have let Euskalkultura.com know that they are preparing a book on the history of Xare in the country along with a film on the 2013 tournament.

Concerts for its 10th anniversary: the Camerata de la Luna will perform the “Requiem in D Minor” this weekend

Concert poster We are getting to the end of the year and the Camerata de la Luna, part of the Euskal Etxea in Villa Mercedes, in the Argentinean province of San Luis, is preparing itself for its most important concerts for 2013, celebrating its 10th anniversary. Presentations will take place on Saturday November 2 in San Luis city and on Sunday the 3rd in Villa Mercedes, with a selected repertoire for the occasion which will be the Requiem in D Minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The concert will also serve as a tribute, in a way to the tragedy of the students at the Santa Maria school in San Luis, on its second anniversary.

“Overtrails” a new way to get to know the Basque Country, will be presented to the Diaspora in Villa Maria

That is what the Group Itsaslur is proposing in Basque, English, Spanish or French, with Overtrails, a trip that departs from the touristic routes, designed especially for Basque communities in the Diaspora. After visiting California, Itsaslur will be at Semana Vasca in Villa Maria from November 8-10 to present three kinds of programs that Overtrails offer: cultural trips, language immersion programs, as well as other programs to get to know firsthand, the lives of fishermen, farmers, how to make cheese, cider, etc.

After 10 years the Semana Vasca returns to Villa Maria (photoEE) The Basque-Argentinean Diaspora is getting ready once again for this huge annual event. The Semana Nacional Vasca (National Basque Week) will take place November 2-10 in Villa Maria, Cordoba. The event will include entertainment from the Basque Country, with Gozategi, and will also be attended by delegates, dancers and participants from all over the country. This will also be the site for the First Regional Congress of South American Basque Communities with 10 national delegations participating.

We are now Saturday October 12, in the afternoon after the NABO meeting at activities planned including song and dance performances at the East River State Park in Brooklyn. This is a place with wonderful views of the NY skyline, in the shadow of which, various groups form the Basque Country and the US performed.
