EuskalKultura.com was awarded the Buber Award for the best website or application in 2013 in relation to Euskera. The award was presented at a ceremony that took place at the Technology Park of Araba. Receiving the award, Joseba Etxarri, director of EuskalKultura.com thanked --“This award is yours,” he said-- everyone from the most diverse places in the world working hard for their Basque communities. "You work made this award possible, thanks for your commitment and for being an active Basque in your community". Organized by the Internet and Euskadi Association, the Buber Awards are the oldest in the Basque internet world and recognize the best contributions of the year on the web.

Thanks to the Oroimenez club, the colors of San Fermin dominated the Festival of Communities in Los Toldos, Argentina. That is what the members of the new club chose, white shirts and red neckerchiefs to present their dishes, dances, and traditional music of the Basque Country to their neighbors. The festival also became the perfect venue to present Basque on the International Day of Euskera. Basque, Spanish, Dutch and Italians, hosted of this year’s event, gathered in Mitre Street to provide the public with a multicultural event.

The Association of Ikastolas of Euskal Herria – Euskal Herriko Ikastolen Elkartea has created an app to create personalized holiday cards with typical Basque characters. It is called “ZoriON” and is available for Android phones. The app. is free and allows users to create cards using their own photos and adding characters like the Olentzero and Mari Domingi, Argitxo, Ttantto, Txirritx and Xango, trikitilaris…. Include the text that you want and that’s it! You can send these to family and friends through social media or text message. The app. is available in Basque, English, Spanish and French.

The young Zazpirak Bat Basque club of Gral. Las Heras, in the Argentinean province of Buenos Aires, is growing quickly. In little time they have achieved, creating a board of directors, a dance group, finding a facility where they hold their activities, and have initiated an annual festival, the Basque Sports Week of General Las Heras, as an obligatory date on the calendar in the area. This year’s festival was again a great success, not only because of new events like the scythe championship, but also because there were representatives from other Basque clubs like Cañuelas, San Miguel, Marcos Paz or Buenos Aires.

Sometimes our daily lives include pleasant surprises from the institutional and social worlds. For instance, last year EuskalKultura.com was a finalist in the Diario Vasco Awards for Best Basque Related Website, and this year the Buber Awards, internet masters in Euskal Herria, noticed us and have made us finalists again in the category of Best Euskera-related website for 2013. Thanks to those who nominated and supported us with your vote. A jury will now decide who the winner will be. “It’s funny,” said director Joseba Etxarri, “because this comes at a pinnacle moment for EuskalKultura.com when we may have to close, or in the best case scenario suffer major cuts,” he said.

The Laurak Bat and Euskaltzaleok Basque clubs in Valencia urge Basque speakers and students from all over the world to participate in the “First Diaspora Literary Letters Contest.” Entries are free themed and should no more than two pages long. There are two categories, one for native speakers and another for Basque language students. Entries can be written in Batua or any dialect and will be awarded with books. The deadline to enter is January 15, 2014.

As every year, the Diaspora greatly celebrated the Day of Euskera, and nothing was lacking at the festivities; because besides games, songs, talks and videos there were also pintxos and drinks. From Montevideo to the Andes, the clubs displayed the colors of the ikurriña and the sounds of Euskera to once again show their commitment to the culture and especially to the language of the Basque Country. Following activities that took place in La Plata, El Hoyo (Chubut), Montevideo, Rio Cuarto, Saladillo and San Nicolas.

The President of Navarre, Yolanda Barcina, will lead an official program of events organized in the province of Santa Fe in Argentina on the Centennial of the Navarrese Center in Rosario. Barcina will be welcomed this morning by the local Mayor, Monica Fein, that will present her with the “Distinguished Visitor,” at an event that will attended by the five presidents of Navarrese clubs in Argentina: Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata, Mendoza, Bolivar and Rosario. Barcina will participate in a meeting of the Federation of Navarrese Centers in Argentina, as well as the Centennial banquet before returning home on Sunday from the airport in Ezeiza.
