Aizpea Goenaga will represent the Etxepare Basque Institute at the 1st Market of Atlantic Cultural Industries

MICAtlantica will take place November 23-26 in Santiago de Compostela Organized by the Secretary of Culture of Argentina with the Government of Galicia, the 1st Market of Atlantic Cultural Industries will take place in Santiago de Compostela from Saturday November 23-November 26. The event will gather producers and cultural entrepreneurs from Argentina and the Iberian Peninsula and will be attended by the Director of the Etxepare Basque Institute, Aizpea Goenaga who will present the objectives and guidelines of the Institute as well as moderate a panel on television platforms.

Program of upcoming events at the Azul Basque club The Azul Basque club, in the province of Buenos Aires, is getting ready for three days of activities relative to the club as well as the local Basque community in its entirety. The program of events will begin today, Wednesday, November 20, with a visit from Delegate of Euskadi in Argentina and Mercosur, Sara Pagola. On Saturday, club board and members will gather to plant a seedling of the Tree of Gernika and on Sunday, they will represent the Basque Country at the local Festival of Communities.

Itxaso Cayero gathers songs and games in “Umeen Euskara Liburua” to teach Basque to kids in the US

The event was attended by teachers from different places of the country. The event was also focused on the book Umeen Euskara Liburua, where Boise teacher Itxaso Cayero, proposes games and songs in Basque to use in children’s classes. The teachers were kids for a day to learn the games that they will later use in their classes. The book will be used as didactic material in children’s classes in the US starting this year.

The Cordobatarrak dance group starts a page that provides free Basque music downloads

Cordobatarrak's website (photoEE) The page is already available and is slowly developing in the coming weeks, including more information according to its promoters. Although the main goal of the project is to provide music, the page will also include photos and videos as well as information on upcoming events and song lyrics in Basque. The service is completely free, prior registration is not necessary and it will operate based on the requests made by users.

Brussels opens up a window to Basque culture this weekend with concerts, film, talks and much more

Promotional poster for the "Fenêtre Ouvert" Festival This year marks the second edition of "Fenêtre Ouvert" (Open Window), a festival that is entirely dedicated to the Basque culture and will run from Saturday until December 4th. They are two weeks full of activities thanks to the Etxepare Basque Institute, and the Federation of Young Musicians Wallonie-Bruxelles. The program will include film screenings, concerts, dance, bertsos and an exhibit on Mikel Laboa’s music, among other things. In addition, the musician Juan Mari Beltran will give a tour of concerts and workshops at local schools.

Cooking is the strength of the San Nicolas Basque club and they will happily share advice at the cooking workshop this weekend in Tandil You better hurry up if you want to participate in the cooking workshop provided by FEVA that will take place this Saturday, November 23 at the Gure Etxea Basque club in Tandil, Argentina taught by the gastronomic group from Euzkal Etxea in San Nicolas. The deadline to sign up is Thursday. The seducing proposal is part of the festivities organized by the Tandil Basque club on the occasion of its 64th anniversary. The event will include a big dance. The events will be attended by Basque Government’ delegate for Argentina-Mercosur, Sara Pagola.

The University of Liverpool remembers Manuel Irujo with a conference and the creation of a chair

News conference that took place in Donostia regarding the conference and forthcoming Manuel Irujo Chair at the University of Liverpool (photoEtxepare) The memory of Manuel Irujo, one of the prominent figures of Basque exile, will be remembers at the University of Liverpool over the coming weeks, in collaboration with the Etxepare Basque Institute and the family of the lawyer, and Navarrese politician. A conference on Irujo will take place on November 27, and as of the 2014-2015 academic year, the University will launch a Manuel Irujo Chair Fellowship with the support of Etxepare. In addition, Irujo’s family has donated his library to the university and from now on it will be available to students and researchers at the English university.

The colors of the Ikurrina and the smiles and good job of hundreds of young Basque dancers colored Villa Maria The 39 edition of the largest Basque-Argentinean annual event came to a close last Sunday in Villa Maria. After the farewell dinner and after three intense days, delegations headed home, many of whom traveling thousands of kilometers. As always, what ends for some becomes a beginning for others that will have its moment of glory at the end of 2014. After five years the Semana Nacional Vasca will return next year to La Plata, the capital of the province of Buenos Aires.

The Miami Euskal Etxea launches a campaign to help Joseba Andoni an 8 year-old Basque boy from Bakio

Joseba Andoni Larrazabal is a very calm and loving boy who loves music, especially rock, says her mother, Eneritz Joseba Andoni suffered a serious accident in a swimming pool when he was only 11 months, when he almost drown and suffered brain damage. Since then, he has shown delayed development and suffers from seizures. In 2007, his family moved to Florida where he began therapy at the Miami Children’s Hospital. There, his mother Eneritz and his aunt got in touch with the Basque club with whom they began to collaborate selflessly. Now, it’s time to return the favor: at the age of 8, Joseba Andoni is no longer eligible to receive aid, and the Euskal Etxea in Miami has started a campaign to help his family with the costs of the new treatment that has promising success rates.

2013 Semana Vasca Argentina: the amphitheater in Villa Maria gathered hundreds of youth doing Basque dance (IV)

33 dances by around 30 dance groups were enjoyed during Saturday night's gala (photoEuskalKultura.com) The Semana Vasca in Argentina always features its dantzaris at a gala that they hold every year as the main show of the event. In 2013, 28 Basque dance groups did their homework and had the oportunity to dance on a special stage at the Villa Maria Amphitheater, the site every February of the International Festival de Peñas. The end of the gala led into Sunday’s kalejira and a concert by Gozategi.
