A Basque film festival will begin at the Corpus Basque club in the remodeled library Atahualpa Yupanqui

One of the main Corpus Christi Basque club projects is to help the indigenous people in the area (photo EE) Even though it hasn’t been officially inaugurated, the members of the Eusko Etxea in Corpus Christi in the Argentinean province of Misiones, is already enjoying the new facilities in the Atahualpa Yupanqui Library. On Sunday the new reading room will be the place where specialist Carlos Gabilondo will present the film Secretos del Corazon (Secrets of the Heart). This will begin the film festival that will run through the entire year. The Basque club also announced that the Basque Cultural Festival 2013 will take place on July 15th and 21st.

The Caracas Basque club plants an “Apamate” Trumpet Tree, typical of Venezuela on Tree Day

Planting the tree is Unai Azpiritxaga Badiola, with helpers Oriana Ainoa Arriaga Lobascio (stroller), Anton Arriaga Aguirre and Julen Azpiritxaga Zubizarreta (photoEE) Members of the Caracas Basque club planted an Apamate or Trumpet Tree, that is typical of the country, on June 2nd in honor of Tree Day that was celebrated the week before in Venezuela. Prior to the event, nearly 80 people gathered at the clubhouse for monthly mass which is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month, and this time celebrated in memory of María Luisa Iglesias de Pernia, Iñaki Baroja and Victor Elkoro.

The Chivilcoy Basque club starts its 30th Anniversary festivities with a gastronomic meeting

Invitation to the gastronomic event Parties, lectures and even a new edition of the “Tree of Gernika” literature contest; the Beti Aurrera Basque club in Chivilcoy in the province of Buenos Aires is in the last stages of preparing the ample program of activities to celebrate its three decades of life. The program is varied and includes, among other things, a poetry contest, gastronomic activities and genealogy. There will also be the traditional bonfire to celebrate San Juan and burning of the witch on June 30th in front of the Basque club, along with an anniversary dinner will take place on July 28 at the club. The Chivilcoy Basque clubs everyone in the community to join in the festivities.

The Rio Grande do Sul Basque club in Brazil will celebrate the third Basque Culture Gathering

Basque club supporters with a Rio Grande do Sul club t-shirt (photoRioGrandedoSulEE) The Rio Grande do Sul Basque club will celebrate its third Basque culture meeting this Saturday in the city of Pelotas. Pelotas has a large Basque population; the Basque club has chosen this place as the site of the meeting to highlight this presence and to allow other Basques to get better acquainted with this area as well. The event will be attended by the Delegate of Euskadi in Mercosur, Sara Pagola and the president of the Sao Paulo Basque club, Oskar Goitia.

The festival of the “Absent Navarran” gathered 2,000 in Mendavia in its 25th year

Representatives of Navarran clubs attending the event along with the mayor of Pamplona, Yolanda Barcina (photoNavarra.es) Mendavia, Nafarroa received nearly 2,000 people last Saturday to celebrate the 25th annual “Day of the Absent Navarran.” The event was organized by the National Federation of Navarran Homes, and included a complete program of activities that included an encierro, traditional food, fellowship and a theater performance.

The Eusko Etxea of San Juan planted an oak tree at the foot of the Andes in honor of the Tree of Gernika

The Basque community in San Juan planting an oak in the Plaza Espana In the presence of the Vice-consul of Spain, Juan Antonio Garcia, and the city’s Secretary of Culture, Luis Meglioli, representatives of the Basque community in San Juan planted an oak in the Plaza España there. The event also included the unveiling of a plaque and an explanation of the famous verses of Gernikako Arbola by Iparragirre. Along with this news the Basque club also told EuskalKultura.com about the anticipation of a visit by chef Marita Echave who will present her Cocina Vasca Campesina (Basque Farmer's Cooking).

Hargatik, the bilingual newsletter from La Plata Basque club, publishes number 88

Cover of Hargatik #88 TThe Euskera group at the Euskal Etxea in La Plata has been publishing a newsletter since 1995 called Hargatik, that reports on club activities as well as on other topics of interest to its members. Its special attention and dedication to Euskera – the articles appear in both Spanish and Basque languages which makes it a noteworthy case. “Our goal is to arouse curiosity about Euskera and to help those who know it to practice it,” Stella Maris Iturbide, club member, explains to EuskalKultura.com. “We think it is worth it.”

The youth program Hator Hona celebrates 10 years of bringing young people from Necochea to the Basque Country

2012 Hator Hona participants (photo GazteAlai) This year marks 10 years since the Euzko Etxea in Necochea began the Hator Hona project, an exchange program that allows Basque Country youth to visit Necochea during the austral winter to share experiences with the local community while teaching various workshops on Basque culture. Unlike previous years, this year a group from Necochea will visit Euskal Herria. The group is comprised of 20 members of the Gazte Alai dance group who will conduct a series of presentations between July 10th and August 11th.

Specialist Carlos Gabilondo will inaugurate the Basque Film Series today at the Basque club in Posadas

Films to be shown in Posadas in the province of Misiones As every year, there will again be a film series this year at the Basque club in Posadas in the Argentinean province of Misiones. Organized by the local Basque club, activities will take place in the Public Library in Posadas every Monday during the month of June. The festival will begin today and will be inaugurated by Carlos Gabilondo, cinephile from Buenos Aires, who will give a talk on the history of Basque film. In another forum, Gabilondo will present La Pelota Vasca as part of the 40th anniversary of the University in Misiones.
