A Basque delegation intervened in the world of Argentine cooperatives. Invited by the government of the province of Santa Fe, the Director of Social Economy in the Basque Government, Maria Ubarretxena Cid, and the President of the Confederation of the Cooperatives of Euskadi-Konfekoop, Javier Goienetxea, provided the perspective of Basque cooperatives at the 1st Cooperative Conference in Santa Fe. The event was part of a charged agenda that included the signing of an agreement, presentations in La Plata and Buenos Aires and a meeting with the Basque-Argentine community.

The deadline to apply for one of the four scholarships offered by the Basque Government in the area of Basques Abroad and clubs abroad is June 30th. The scholarships are part of the Directorate of the Basque Community Abroad and are for one year of residency in Vitoria-Gasteiz (2), Argentina (1) and the US (1). These are worth 16,000 Euros in Vitoria-Gasteiz and for 24,000 Euros in Argentina and the US.

Bardenay Restaurant and Distillery, in downtown Boise (ID), will hold, a fundraising event, next Monday, to support the Boiseko Ikastola. A non-specified percentage of the total profits made between 5 and 9 p.m. will be donated to the pre-school, which will invest the money “for special projects,” as Patty Miller, director of the Basque Museum and Cultural Center of Boise, told Euskalkultura.com. No ticket is needed to take part in the event.

Basque filmmakers Iñigo and Koldo Eguren raised almost $2,500 for their short film project ‘Versus’ via Indiegogo, a crowd-funding website, in just one week. “If we keep up the pace I believe we will be able to get $15,000,” Koldo, producer of the film, told EuskalKultura.com. ‘Versus,’ the first movie to be directed by Iñigo and with a work-team comprised, almost in its entirety, by young Basques, will star Bilbao fashion model Jon Kortajarena. Kortajarena made his debut as an actor in the 2009 movie ‘A Single Man,’ where he shared credits with Julianne Moore and Colin Firth. The psycho-thriller ‘Versus’ will be shot in August, in Los Angeles (CA).

Throughout the weekend five workshops were taught on various topics with participants from 12 Basque clubs. Organizers, FEVA and the Cañuelas Basque club, were very happy with the result, “not only with contents, but also with the exchange of experiences and opinions and the strengthening of the ties between the clubs and their members, in pursuit of the conservation and dissemination of the culture of the Basque people.”

For the fifth year in a row, the Associazione Culturale Euskara Basque club and the Department of Basque Language at the UPTER University in Rome have united music, Basque and the inexhaustible capacity to create a group of fifth course (9-10 years of age) and have given form to the songs in Euskanta 2014. For another year, these children have created, recorded and illustrates some Basque songs, that can now be heard online on the Euskanta project’s blog. The result is curious, fun and surprising.

About 30 cyclists participated, this Saturday, on the Txirrindulari Bike Club Ride, in northern San Francisco (CA), organized by Euskal Etxea's Cycling Club. 27 people, men and women of all ages, pedaled up the roads of the city of Jack London, “having a great time,” as member Philippe Acheritogaray told EuskalKultura.com. “Everyone did a great job and some new friendships were made too,” added Leon Sorhondo, who designed the routes.

Heartbreaking news has come to us again, this time of the death in an accident of Joshua Rose, from Winnemucca, Nevada, who had participated in several NABO Udaleku summer camps. It was at these camps that he made good friends all over the country, friends who are now mourning his loss on Facebook and other social media.

Boise State University’s Basque Studies Program will hold a soccer summer camp, with the presence of Bilbao Athletic Club’s women players as instructors. Dates are between July 21 and 24. It will be an interesting experience linking soccer, Basque communities abroad and one of the big Basque teams, a first step for next year's visit of Athletic's first team to Boise.
