She was born in Errenteria (Gipuzkoa), even though she has spent more than half of her 50 years in the United States. Nere Lete Etxebeste studied Philology and Translation and is currently an associate professor at Boise State University. Mother of three young Basque-Americans, her work in favor of Basque permeates a large part of her projects that she has developed over the last two decades in the capital of Idaho.

More than two hundred people participated in the event that also included a celebration of the end of the year. The program was complete with a concert by three choirs, the tribute of the Basque club to the language of the Basque Country and a dance performance by the club’s youth. The evening continued with dinner and a dance until 3am.

The International Day of the Basque Language began wonderfully for the Berlin Basque club that was awarded the 2014 ENE Saria. Eusko Ikaskuntza, the Society of Basque Studies made the announcement this morning recognizing the club’s efforts in the diffusion of the Basque language and culture in the German capital, highlighting its creativity and modernity in done so. In the coming hours, Euskera Day non-stop activities will begin in the Basque Country and the Diaspora. Ospatu eta gozatu! Celebrate and have fun!

As Deputy General of Gipuzkoa --Head of the Council of that Basque Territory-- Martin Garitano has sent a video message to the Basques in the Diaspora on the occasion of the celebration today, December 3rd, of the ENE (Euskararen Nazioarteko Eguna) or International Day of the Basque Language. Garitano thanks his fellow citizens living abroad for the important contribution they made and they keep making from the different countries in the world where they live to preserve and to transmit Euskera. The message has been recorded in Basque and it has four more versions with subtitles in Spanish, French, English or Catalan.

The dantzaris of the Union Vasca de Socorros Mutuos Basque club in Bahia Blanca, members of the Beti Aurrera dance group, ended its performances for the year with the presentation of “Irauten,” a show that narrates, through stories, images and choreography, the history of the Basque people, from its origins to the present.

Basque culture will be showcased starting today in Rome with a complete program of cultural activities organized by the Associazione Culturale Euskara (ACE) and the Department of Basque Language and Culture of the UPTER University: Joseba Sarrionandia now in Italian, Basque-Italian dictionary, films, pintxos and music through December 12th.

Last Friday we published news on various events to celebrate International Euskera Day (ENE) 2014 around the world. We left the Argentine event s for this second article. Tomorrow, on December 3rd, Argentine Basque clubs will unite with the rest of the world to provide an ample and varied program of activities. In this article EuskalKultura.com will provide detailed information on some of the Argentina happenings.

This Wednesday, the International Day of Euskera will be celebrated and at the Complutense University in Madrid they are joining in with activities dedicated to “Multilingualism in the Iberian Peninsula.” This the third edition of this conference that will focus this year on Czech poetry. During the session Czech poems translated into Basque, Spanish, Catalan and Galician will be recited.

The festivities for the 101st anniversary of Pedro Luro lasted for three days and included an official act, a parade of institutions, shows and the festival of collectivities with Basques who were present with their food stand. The city of Pedro Luro, owes its name to the Lower Navarran inmigrant of that name or to his son, also Pedro Luro; the inmigrant Luro from Donaixti-Ibarre in Baxenabarre, married Juana Pradere also a Basque, from Sara. Parents and kids, the whole Luro family were very active in the progress of Mar del Plata and the then big territory of La Pampa.

The 25th edition of the Festival of Collectivities in Parana took place in the area of the new port, on the coast of the river and was attended by sixteen different organized communities. In the Basque case, they were represented by the Urrundik Association with a performance as well as in the festival’s princess contest.
