Denak Bat in Cañuelas spreads information inviting the youth to its 11th Aberri Eguna-Dantzari-Get-Together

Basque stand at the 195th anniversary of Cañuelas

The regional Dantzari Get-Together at the Cañuelas Basque Club organized on Aberri Eguna, will be held this year on April 8-9.  The Basque club has published the price of the voucher made cheaper this year with lodging being provided by host Basque club families.  Along with this news, the club also announced that it represented the Basque community at the city’s 195th anniversary celebration as well.

The Big Horn Basque Club, in Buffalo Wyoming, held its annual meeting and elections on Sunday, January 29th at the local American Legion Hall. The day began with mass with the particiation of the club's Basque Choir, followed by lunch and business meeting.  As hosts of this year's NABO (North American Basque Organizations) convention, there was much talk about planning the event, and committees were also created and filled.

The first shipment of Books from the “Paperezko Ametsak” (paper dreams) project in Oiartzun will go to Humahuaca, Argentina

The project began two months ago amog kids in the Gipuzkoan town of Oiartzun and its objective is to gather books and send them to places where they are needed.  The first shipment will go to three places: a refugee camp in the Sahara, a Basque club in Argentina and a school in the town of Aparzo, in Humahuaca, northern province of Jujuy, also in Argentina.

The Boise Basque Museum and Cultural Center is looking for an Education Programs Specialist.  The main role of this position is to create programs and events in order to reach a broader audience, bringing children, and adults alike, to the Museum.  This position also entails working with schools, tour groups and others, as well as creating customized visits for specific groups.  Deadline to apply is February 15, 2017.

The President of the Navarran Parliament, Ainhoa Aznarez visited the headquarters of the Laurak Bat Club in Valencia during her trip to the capital for a meeting of Presidents of Parliament of autonomous communities. Founded 69 years ago, the club has nearly 50 families with Alberto Artieda Jaca serving as its current president and it's an institution recognized by both the Basque and Navarran governments.

Argentina: Udaleku 2017 in Chascomus had twice the number of participants that it had its previous edition

Udaleku 2017 participants and companions enjoying the pool!

Organized by the Chascomus Zingirako Euskaldunak Basque Club, Udaleku, or Basque Summer camp had 44 children participating this year from Basque clubs in Maipu, Mar del Plata, Cañuelas, Bahia Blanca, Rosario and Posadas, plus children from the hosting club.  The organizers were very satisfied with how it went and have already begun planning Udaleku 2018.

After seventeen years of service, John Etchemendy, Stanford University’s longest-serving Provost steps down

John Etchemendy, who has served as Stanford University’s Provost for the last seventeen years stepped down yesterday, January 31, 2017.  He will remain on campus this year to assist his replacement, Provost Persis Drell as well as President Marc Tessier-Lavigne.  Attached is an article about his tenure at Stanford.

The Etxepare Basque Institute has published this week in the Official Bulletin of the Basque Country, a job opening for a Basque language and culture lecturer at the National University of La Plata in Argentina.  The published Resolution is looking for a person with a university of degree that also meets several requirements.  The deadline to apply is in 15 days, with the job beginning on April 17th.
