The group of cooks at the Euskal Etxea and a large group of helpers came together to prepare nearly 500 meals that were delivered to the town of La Emilia, part of San Nicolas county, one of the most affected areas by January’s floods. Another example of solidarity and the ability of teamwork at the local Basque club, which has already begun working on activities for Semana Nacional Vasca 2017 in San Nicolas.

Best regards, our friend/reader. With the end of this year, our project has completed over 15 years online and has seen 16 end/ beginnings of the year. This time the end of 2016 was not so good, but facing the new year we strive to remain optimistic with the idea that 2017 will bring us new opportunities. It has been a bad year in economic terms, but it has provided us the opportunity to feel and value the warmth of solidarity in the face of the hard blow that the non-renewal of the support traditionally provided by the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa for the bulletin meant. Our priority will be to increase our revenues and recover that partnership.

Finally, the six prizes turned into seven, since we raffled two copies of the classic “taco” calendar from Arantzazu. The prizes are headed for Navarre (1), Argentina (4), the US (1) and Uruguay (1). Participants came from 13 different countries and the number of entries was a little bit lower: 201. Zorionak to all of our winners, and to everyone else, hang on until our next raffle in the beginning of February.

The naming event was attended by officials and many family members and friends of this Basque-Argentine that passed away last March. Son of Basque immigrants from Baxenabarre and Xiberoa, Oscar Arla was part of the University first as a student, then as a teacher and a director. Arla was distinguished in pelota paleta and transmitted his Basqueness and love for his Basque origin to his children, especially to Mariana, who is a very active member and a reference of Euskaltzaleak and the Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea in Buenos Aires.

The Basque community in Tierra del Fuego has, since September, had a reference and a place - for now virtual - to resort to, to deepen their knowledge about the culture and current affairs of Euskal Herria, as well as to make their contribution to the project, which hopes to materialize soon. The invitation comes from Ushuaia, a city that has already given a place to the members of the center in formation, both in cultural spaces and in the parade held on the city’s anniversary.
