The Zazpiak Bat Basque Club that is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its festival this year, invites everyone to its annual potluck and Mus Tournament. The event will take place next Saturday, March 4th at Reno's American Legion Hall. The day promises to be full of fun, dancing, great food and of course Mus.
Reno, NV. The Zazpiak Bat Basque Club in Reno was founded in September 1966 with 33 people paying $3.00 a piece for membership dues. The club’s first function was a San Martin Dance in November that is still a club tradition today. Another club tradition is its annual potluck and Mus Tournament. This event provides an opportunity for club members to gather with their families and enjoy a day of fun for young and old.
The festivities will begin with the Mus Tournament registration at 8am at the American Legion Hall. To facilitate registration, all participants are encouraged to fill out a registration form ahead of time. This form is available here. You have to be a member of Zazpiak Bat Basque Club to play in the tournament. Membership dues, as well as the $25 tournament fee that includes a light breakfast and lunch, are payable at the door.
While the tournament is going on, the potluck festivities will begin at 11am, also at the Legion Hall. The club dancers will perform at noon with lunch being served at 12:30pm. Everyone is encouraged to bring along their signature dish, but if you are at a loss as to what to bring, suggestions can be found here. After lunch there will be a cake walk to raise money for the dance group, as well as Bingo for all to enjoy, and a silent auction. Chorizos and cheese will also be served in the late afternoon.
