The Ibai Txori Basque Club in Concepción del Uruguay, Argentina, on the banks of the Uruguay River, will again provide its community a large array of recreational and cultural proposals including one of the most anticipated, Basque classes that will begin at the clubhouse in two weeks on Saturday, April 22nd, thanks to irakasle Alejo Conti from Rosario. This is no small feat taken up by many euskal etxeas in their continued commitment to the language and culture.

A full week of activity in Lima as members of its Basque club and community get ready to host “Mercomus 2017” mus tournament. Fourteen teams coming from Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Uruguay, as well as Peru will compete at the event that will conclude on Sunday with a celebration of Korrika 20 through the streets of Lima, joining in again on the "tipi-tapa, tipi-tapa Korrika” for another year, in support of the Basque language (includes video).

The city of Olavarria invites everyone to the first edition of its gastronomic cultural fair “Flavor Wave” this weekend in front of the Municipal Cultural Center in San Jose. Shortly after celebrating its 7th anniversary of its reactivation, the Gure Etxe MaiteaBasque Club will be part of the event with a stand and a dance performance that will show the community some of the activities that are carried out at the club.

The Basque Minister of Economic Development and Infrastructure, Arantxa Tapia, will preside over the opening ceremony, which comes at a time of uncertainty in light of Brexit. The United Kingdom is one of the first export destinations for Basque companies, being among the top 5 over the last ten years. The Basque Government delegation will meet with a dozen Basque companies established in the UK on April 6 and will visit the Rolls Royce facilities.

A wide and varied program of activities especially organized in Bahia Blanca include workshops in Basque food, Euskera, artistic activity supported and designed for children at the Barandiaran Library. “The future of an institution depends on a solid base and this base is our children,” that is why they are planning specific activities “to attract, stimulate their staying involved and submerging them in the culture of Euskal Herria.”

Radio programs produced in Argentina and Uruguay are not new. Neither is the naturalness with which the Diaspora has turned to them, with the possibility today of listening from all corners of the world. Unfortunately, the programs, instead of growing in number, are decreasing. In this new course we will miss the excellent work done by former programs in places like Arrecifes, Bahia…

“Agur(t)ango” debuted at the last “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country,” with the participation of dantzaris from the Ekin Dantzari Taldea and the Laurak Bat Basque Club dance groups. Directed by Aitor Alava, choreographer, the debut was a novelty, even though it isn’t the first time that this dancer based in Buenos Aires linked typical movements of Basque dance with the Argentine folklore.

Korrika 20 begins its tour today in the Basque Country where it will run for ten days, concluding on April 9th in Iruña-Pamplona. The race in support of the Basque language already had its preface in the Diaspora where year after year new places and communities join in, in three different ways, with Basque clubs and communities, as well as with the network of lecturers from the Etxepare Basque Institute, and also with individuals and families who gather to contribute their grain of sand.

The “Lower Park” project was contemplating this. Efforts by the Basque-Argentine, Juan de Garay Foundation, have avoided that this symbol, the icon of Basque history in Argentina situated meters from the Casa Rosada, has to be moved. The statue of Juan de Garay will be moved 30 meters. This monument was inaugurated in 1915 and the Tree of Gernika grows in this central location since 1919.
