Two Basque projects are among the four European ones chosen by the Inter-American Development Bank as Good Practices of Equality. The two are the process of implantation of equality in the recruitment in Basque public administration and the space for the empowerment of female politicians, and “Virginia Woolf Basqueskola.” Both were presented yesterday in Washington DC by Emakunde (Institute for Basque Women) and the EUDEL Association of Basque Municipalities.

The 22nd edition of the International Fair of hardware, DIY and industrial supply, Ferroforma, organized by the Bilbao Exhibition Center (BEC) will take place in the Bizkaian capital city, June 6-8. Based in Buenos Aires, the Basque-Argentine Chamber of Commerce (CEVA) is hoping to support the participation of Argentine representatives in the area along with the BEC if offering important benefits to businesses interested in attending.

They called it “Udaberri Jaia” Spring Celebration, and spring in Atlanta often means rain. With their event being held in the rain, organizers of the first public activity for the Atlanta Euskal Etxea (AEE) were very “happy and hopeful” with the response they received. They were “reinforced” by the commitment expressed by those attending, 35 people of all ages who are already thinking about the club’s first projects.

For two weeks, this group of seven young bertsolaris and pilotaris from Euskal Herria has traveled through Argentina with their show “Bertso-Pilota.” They were greeted in each city by members and friends of the corresponding euskal etxea, and they didn’t only perform “Bertso-Pilota” but they also put themselves at the disposition of each club to participate in other activities related to Basque culture. The message will be manifested in multiple expressions: civil events, tributes, talks, exhibits…There will also be documentaries shown with images and testimonies, and reflection on the bombing. Many euskal etxeas and Basque communities will commemorate today the anniversary, and other have held events prior, or will have them in the coming days. We have gathered here some of the most significant events planned in Argentina and Uruguay to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika.

The only Irishman known to have fought as a gudari (soldier) of the Basque army (Euzko Gudarostea) during the Spanish Civil War was remembered at an event in Dublin this weekend marking the 80th anniversary of the destruction of Gernika. The Basque Government, at a meeting of its Counsel held on Tuesday morning, has given the green light to the 2017 Gaztemundu Program. This edition will be focused on traditional Basque instruments and will be held September 2-17, 2017. Applications can be sent once the call is published, in the coming days, in the Official Bulletin of the Basque Country. We´ll keep you posted.

Some 100 people attended last Saturday’s 22nd Basque-Venezuelan Gathering in Galdakao. The event gathered families and individuals who were either both, were raised, or lived in the heart of the Basque clubs and historic Basque communities in Venezuela, and live now in the Basque Country. The day is organized by the Simon Bolivar Association, led by Amaya Zenarutzabeitia. The reunion gave a recognition to Joxean Elgezabal Garcia, 89 years old. (See photo gallery)

The Juan de Garay Foundation will head the Basque presence at the 2017 International Book Fair in Buenos Aires. A member of the entity will also participate in the Professional Training Conference that the Fair also organizes and which begins today. The stand will open on Thursday, April 27th and will stay open through May 15th, number 1900 in the Yellow Pavilion. There will be an event attended by Basque authorities on May 2nd at 6:30pm in Domingo Sarmiento Hall.
