The government led by Uxue Barkos has reported through a note that the Minister of Citizen and Institutional Relations of the Government of Navarre, Ana Ollo, and the General Director of Communication and Institutional Relations, Pello Pellejero, met last Tuesday with the Basque Government’s Secretary General of Foreign Action, Marian Elorza, and with the Director of the Basque Community Abroad, Gorka Alvarez.

His father was the first Republican mayor of Legazpi in 1931 and was obliged to escape, and flee to Cuba. There he met Emilia Echeverria, from Mutiloa, with whom he raised five children. The youngest is now a bishop who, after a visit with the Pope at the Vatican, stopped in Legazpi where he met family members on both the Aranguren and Echeverria sides. The Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea in Buenos Aires held its General Assembly last Tuesday where elections took place among other matters. Roberto Plorutti is the new President, leading the new Board along with Federico Sergio Baldoy, Vice-president, Norma Rios Secretary and Alberto Sosa Montegagano, Treasurer.

The event was organized by Eusko Jaurlaritza in collaboration with the hosting club the Eskual Etxea in Paris. Attending were some 20 representatives of Basque clubs in Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Representing the Basque government were Marian Elorza, Secretary General of Foreign Action, and the Director of the Basque Community Abroad, Gorka Alvarez Aranburu. From Friday to Sunday they discusses topics and issues like generational transmission and new technologies as well as Euskera, funding and Brexit.

Euskera Beer is a family Business led by Gabriel Urreaga, originally from Apostoles in the Province of Misiones, and descendant of Navarrese ancestry. “Unlike mass-produced beers,” Euskera is handcrafted, with “the taste and quality of homemade.” And its name is a small tribute by the Argentine descendants of the Urreaga family who had to leave their homeland in the 19th century.

Maria Julia Ercoreca was one of the main promoters, one of the founders and Etorritakoengatik Basque Club’s first president in the city of Puerto Madryn in the Argentine province of Chubut. When it was time to make a toast for the 6th anniversary of the institution, the irreplaceable contribution of “Marita” was on the minds of all and the current board of directs proposed a moving toast to her.

The Baskos de la Confluencia Basque Club hosted an outing to the shores of the Limay River to celebrate the Day of the Basque Homeland. During a picnic at the place known as China Muerta Center, members of the club enjoyed two very well-appreciated Basque and Argentine traditions: sharing a wonderful lunch, and a long post-lunch session animated with folk songs.

Representatives will arrive today in Paris where a reception will be held this afternoon at Eskual Etxea at 6pm, kicking off the events that will conclude on Sunday at noon. The meeting was organized by the Basque Government, in collaboration with the local Basque club, and is in response to the request by the World Congress of Basque Collectivities to celebrate regional meetings between congresses. The last regional meeting of Basque clubs in Europe, Asia and Oceania was four years ago in Barcelona.

Invited by the city of Obera in the Northern Argentine Province of Misiones, a group of members of the Euskal Jatorri in Posadas - the provincial capital - led Basque-Argentine institutional representation in the talks and meetings held in Obera. Attending from Euskadi, Fernando Nebreda Dias, president of the "garapen", Basque Association of Development Agency.” The club also reported on the elections for its board of directors.

Lehendakari Urkullu visited Brussels yesterday in order to meet with various European leaders, including the president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker; the Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs, Pierre Moscovici; and the coordinator of “Brexit” negotiations in the European Parliament, Guy Verhofstadt. Previous to these meetings, he hosted a reception for the local Basque community residing in the European capital.
