Next Friday through next week's Sunday, the Euskal Etxea in Bordeaux will celebrate with a lively, fun-filled program to mark the 70th anniversary of its founding. It will do it in two locations, at the clubhouse as well as at a stand in the Munich Plaza, participating in the “Bordeaux Fête le Fleuve” Festival that runs through June 4th. There will be something for everyone, including a cider house menu and txotx, to other gastronomic events, as well as txarangas, performances, sports and typical products for purchase.

As part of her tour of the interior of the Province of Buenos Aires, the Basque Government representative for Argentina and Mercosur visited the city of Trenque Lauquen where she met with club members and held a press conference. After the reception, the Basque community celebrated another anniversary of the Euskal Etxea paying tribute to its founders.

In accordance with club statutes, the General Assembly of the Euskaro Basque Club in Montevideo was held including elections for the board of directors that will once again be led by Silvia Ortone Enderiz.

Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu will begin an official trip to Colombia next Monday, accompanied by Arantxa Tapia, leading a business delegation. This trip is strongly economic in character, however Urkullu has also included gatherings with the Basque community while there with a visit to the Euskal Etxea in Bogota and the nearby Gernika Park where a reproduction of Picasso’s Guernica is displayed along with a sculpture by Navarrese artist, Santxotena.

The city suffered some of the most serious floods in its history, in mid-March, and its streets still reflect the damage done by the storm. Although very slowly, the city is beginning to recuperate its normal rhythm. At a time when they are grateful for happy moments and normalcy, the local Basque club celebrated its 94th anniversary and regaled a hundred guests with fine dining and a dance performance.

Literaldia 2017 has reached its last week in its effort to provide the Catalan public once again a reflection of what is happening in the Basque literary scene, was well as in other facets of creativity. Today there will be a debate on “Has Basque Literature Spoken about the Basque Conflict?” and tomorrow the novel by Uribe “Mentrestant agafa'm la má” will be analyzed. In the coming days “Colloquial Euskera, Colonial Euskera” will take place examining the Basques in the world of comics thanks to Asisko Urmeneta.

For the seventh year in a row, the Etxepare Basque Institute, in collaboration with the University of the Basque Country will offer the Excellence in Basque Studies, course aimed at individuals interested in teaching Euskera and Basque culture abroad, as part of the summer courses at UPV-EHU. This seventh edition of the course will take place July 10-11 at Miramar Palace in San Sebastian, and enrollment is open. Tuition has been reduced through May 31st.

The Tandil Basque Club General Assembly, in Argentina, confirmed its confidence in the management and reelected its current president, Marily Harguindeguy, who will continue to serve for two more years. Her work that encourages working in groups, and activities in all areas, has been endorsed in this way. The current board also presented some new activities like organizing the show “Women in Concert;” regarding Mus, winners of last Friday’s tournament will represent the club at the National Championships.

An interesting proposal has come to us from the Chair of Basque Language and Culture at the University of Navarre, a course that is being offered both in person and online, on people's names, surnames and house names in Navarre. The course will be held on May 24-26th, and taught by experts in each area, with the support of the Government of Navarre and the local Government in Pamplona. It's interesting, free and can be followed online. If you are interested don’t miss this opportunity.

On May 3rd folks from Bariloche celebrated their city’s 115th anniversary with a big celebration that filled its streets with music and color that concluded with performances in the Municipal Velodrome. More than 100 entities including schools, associations, movements, communities, clubs and living forces were protagonists of the evening including, as in prior celebrations a “mountain stew” for 18,000 people. The parade and the festivities didn’t lack an Ikurriña provided by the local Mendiko Eusko Etxea Basque Club.
