If you live in the area or if you know a foody who will be there, this is a unique opportunity. Chef Andoni Luis Aduriz, from Donostia, one of the most prominent names in contemporary Basque cuisine, who runs the Mugaritz restaurant in Errenteria, Gipuzkoa, will be cooking July 18-21 at The Bazaar by Chef Jose Andres. He will prepare the Basque-Latin American fusion food that he practices at the Topa Sukalderia, an establishment that opened a few months ago in Donostia.

The Official Bulletin of the Basque Country (BOPV-EHAA) published the list of participants selected to participate in Gaztemundu 2017 in today’s edition. This year’s program is dedicated to musicians and Basque music and instruments. Of the 15 people chosen, there are six girls and nine boys; twelve from Basque clubs in Argentina, two from Chile and one from Uruguay.

It does know how to celebrate and it could be said that San Fermin has all of the ingredients to be one of the best parties: shows music and dance, vitality, colorful landscapes, all-nighters….Basque and Navarran clubs in Argentina try to include all these aspects, and sometimes in a single event so that those that can’t travel to Pamplona can participate in the festivities from afar, but also keep the spirit of San Fermin. The Union Vasca Basque Club in Bahia Blanca will be the site of FEVA activities during the month of July. The meeting of Basque clubs will take place Saturday July 15th and Sunday July 16th, with a program that includes three workshops, one aimed at clearing up doubts about Basque Government grants. The Winter Barnetegi will also take place in Bahia July 15-23, along with the Euskara Munduan teacher’s training.

This third installment concludes our series dedicated to the anniversary of the 2016 Smithsonian Folklife Festival. This initiative by the institution that host this festival in some of the most emblematic places in the city showcased last year the Basque culture, its reality in Europe, as well as the one in America and the work made by Americans of Basque origin to maintain their cultural features and identity.

The big festival of Bulls is known mainly as a Pamplona event, but Basque and Navarran clubs also do great work recreating the atmosphere of San Fermin thousands of kilometers from its epicenter. In this way, a tribute to the patron of Navarre is replicated all over the world, combining the tradition with a touch of local. In Argentina, the majority of the festivities took place on the weekend. Here we include the first installment of the photo gallery.

The event where a sapling of the Tree of Gernika was planted in the US Capitol gardens took place a year ago at a ceremony that Basques Country representatives who attended, will remember for some time. The event also provided Basque-Americans present, from all over the country, a very unique memory as well. This video includes Garamendi’s address that was full of pride for his Basque roots; and the planting itself.

In hopes of reaching more people, the Patagonian Baskos de la Confluencia Basque Club has aired a new radio program, “Txalaparta,” a short 10-minute program that will include information on club activities and in general on various cultural events in the Basque Country, as well as music, sports, history and language, among other topics. “Txalaparta will be broadcast on Radio Confluencia FM 94.5 in Cipolletti every day on rotating schedules.

It took place June 29-July 10th, in two segments including the emblematic date of July 4th. A year ago Basques from Europe as well as from several US states arrived in Washington DC to present themselves as a people and culture in this privileged showcase that is the Smithsonian Folklif Festival. Over the two weeks, they showed the American public pieces of their history and culture. We have selected some videos of the event.

While rehearsing its new themes added to its repertoire of traditional Basque folklore music, the group will present “Bagare” in August an audiovisual project directed by Majo Staffolani de Amoriza and filmed at the Laurak Bat headquarters. The video shows the musicians playing the well-known song by the same name by Gontzal Mendibil. Among their upcoming projects, the ensemble, led by albokari Ignacio Esquiroz, anticipates its first album by mid-2018
