Training for Basque language and culture lecturers at universities abroad offered at UPV-EHU

Linguae Vasconum Primitiae by Etxepare

The course will be taught at the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU) October 6- November 25 in Donostia, and the deadline to enroll is October 6th.  The course will be coordinated by Mari Jose Olaziregi (UPV/EHU) and Garbiñe Iztueta (Director for the Promotion and Diffusion of the Basque Language at the Etxepare Basque Institute).

The successful Basque Film initiative organized in Tandil by the Euskal Etxea and INCAA may be repeated in other places

The INCAA Space ready for the Basque Film Series

The first Basque Film Series organized by the Gure Etxea Basque Club in Tandil, Argentina at the INCAA (National Institute of Film and Audiovisual Airs) local facilities allowed the screening of Amama and Loreak on the big screen.  The proposal was very successful and may be a precedent for events at other INCAA Space in the country.

Berri Txarrak, a group from Navarre, begins its 2017 North American Tour tomorrow with a concert in Colorado

Berri Txarrak from Navarre

Berri Txarrak will play tomorrow, Tuesday in the city of Fort Collins, CO.  the group will dedicate the coming days to a small tour that will also include stops in Quebec and Toronto, to later visit US cities like Washington DC, Providence, Rhode Island, Boston (Cambridge), New York and New jersey.  They will share the stage, at various performances with groups like Descents, The Menzingers and Night Birds.  If you are in the area, why not join in, or let others know about the opportunity.

The toast for the Zelaiko Euskal Etxea’s 25th anniversary in the Pampa

Some 160 people celebrated birthday number 25 of this Basque club in La Pampa.  Besides members and friends the club was also accompanied by the president of FEVA, Hugo Andiazabal, along with provincial and national authorities.  During lunch tribute was paid the club’s first board of directors, former presidents and to cooks and helpers who were active during this quarter century.

The team from Canada won the 40th World Mus Championships in Chino, California

The team from Canada, Patxi Altuna and Rufino Iribarren won the 40th World Mus Championships yesterday in Chino, CA.  Second place went to the Euskadi 2 team, Marin Begiristain and Javier Gabarain, while third place went the French team of Michel Larramendy and Jean Michel Sinde.  Remember that the World Mus Championships were hosted last in San Francisco, and then moved to Chino.  After the competition was over, muslaris and their companions then had the opportunity to participate in Chino’s Annual Basque Picnic.  The 2018 World Championships will take place in Macachin, Argentina.

Artzain Eguna will pay tribute this Sunday to the Oçafrain Brothers from California and to “Euskal Artzainak Ameriketan"

From Banka to California and the world: The Oçafrain brothers including those to be honored this Sunday in Legazpi

Artzain Eguna (Day of the Sheepherder) in Gipuzkoa will pay tribute in Legazpi to the Basque-Californian Oçafrain brothers and the Euskal Artzainak Ameriketan Association.  The Association Euskal Artzainak Ameriketan is taking this meeting in Legazpi as its that annual one that gathers every edition between 400-500 of its associates and families.  The day will also include a traditional fair with farmers’ exhibits and crafts, cheese tastings, meet and farm products, sheepdog trials, cheese contests etc., etc.

Gaztemundu 2017 participants arrive this weekend, for an edition dedicated to Basque instruments

For another year, Gaztemundu is here.  This time the experience is dedicated to Basque instruments and will take place September 2-17, 2017.  Fourteen participants will arrive tomorrow to Euskadi from Basque clubs in Argentina (11), Chile (2) and Uruguay (1). Each one will receive specialized training on the instrument that he/she plays complete with a repertoire, keys and useful resources so that they can carry out their work at their respective Basque clubs, or accompany dance groups etc.  The majority of their training will be in Vitoria-Gasteiz, specifically at the Musika Etxea, with outings to various places throughout the country.

This afternoon the Basque-American group Amerikanuak launches its first CD “Azkenean!”

It is Basque-American dance music like that played at Basque festivals, dances and picnics in the American West.  It features Basque musicians born in California and Utah who received a musical and cultural tradition inherited from their predecessors including big names as Jimmy Jausoro, Bernardo Yanci, or Pedro Juan Etchamendy.  The group’s name is Amerikanuak and is led by Jean Flesher.  After recording costs have been reimbursed, all profits will then be donated to NABO’s “Aita Tillous Fund” to help Basque-American youth activities. Ongi etorri, Azkenean, eta Zorionak!

The final games of this year’s World Mus Championships will take place today in Chino, on the eve of its annual Basque festival

The Chino Basque Club and the Basque community there will celebrate its annual picnic and Basque festival this weekend.  They are also hosting the second half of the World Mus Champions that began last weekend in San Francisco.  Today, the final matches will take place.  Starting tomorrow, they will say good-bye to mus and hello to the Chino Basque Picnic that also include NABO’s pilota finals, music, dance, raffles, mass, food and a great festive atmosphere.

The Euzko Alkartasuna Basque Club in Macachin (La Pampa) Argentina, will be the site of the 2018 World Mus Championships

Logo of the 2018 World Mus to take place in Macachin

The decision was made during the 40th World Mus Championships of Basque Collectivities that is currently being held in California.  According to club sources, the International Mus Association approved Macachin hosting the tournament in the spring, in the southern hemisphere, and fall in the north, next year for champion muslaris from all over the world.
