Naming ceremony at the “Askatasuna eta Bakea” Library at the Zazpirak Bat Basque Club in Rosario

At the ceremony, where the plaque was presented with the name “Askatasuna eta Bakea” (Freedom and Peace), there were dances by the youngest in the club and also a toast.  Along with this news, “Zazpi” also informed us about their successful participation in the Night of Collectivities, September 8-9, and the visit and workshops conducted by youth from the Basque Country with the program Uzturre Munduan.

Art exhibits, lectures, Basque film screenings, activities with schools, celebration of the 15th anniversary of Etxe Nasaia, presentations by singers Mikel Urdangarin, Xabaltx and Michel Etcheverry, mintzodromoa, tamborradas, kalejiras, and the usual fanfare of dancers, meetings of FEVA, libraries, Basque choirs, tabernas, dances and a huge dose of excitement, work and volunteer commitment are some of the ingredients that make this year’s Semana Nacional Vasca Argentina 2017 event program in San Nicolas.

Successful presentation of the book “Baleak ikusi ditut” by Javier Isusi at the Modern Graphics Bookstore in Berlin

The Berlin Euskal etxea carried out the successful presentation of Baleak ikusi ditut, (I saw whales) by illustrator, Javier de Isusi (Bilbao, 1972) at the Modern Graphics Bookstore that specializes in comics in the German capital.  The author spoke with fans and autographed the three editions of the book that were available there, in Basque, Spanish and German.  “He did so including a drawing along with his signature,” Ainhoa Añorga, Berlin Euskal Etxea president told EuskalKultura.com. Añorga spoke with the author and translator Lea Hubner at the presentation.

The Basque Country is the guest of honor at the Ibero-American Gastronomy Fair this weekend in Buenos Aires

Poster for the second edition of the FIBEGA Fair

A large institutional and professional delegation from Euskadi will attend the Ibero-American Gastronomy Fair (FIBEGA) this weekend in Buenos Aires to promote the Basque gastronomic and food sector.  As this year’s guest of honor, the Basque Country will have a large stand at the fair September 15-17 at the Sociedad Rural, providing information on touristic and gastronomic opportunities, as well as participating in conferences, workshops, wine tastings and “cooking shows” featuring pintxos.

The city of Maipu remembered immigrants with a festival that was dominated by music and dance, traditional food and tributes.  The Anaitasuna Basque Club participated with its large dance group, with its cooks and even brought a musical show, Otxote Osasuna who traveled from Necochea especially for the occasion.

These youth belong to Basque clubs around the world and are currently in Euskadi participating in Gaztemundu 2017, a Basque Government program that provides training to youth in the Diaspora.  This year’s edition is dedicated to music and Basque instruments.  In his welcoming words, Urkullu thanked the youth for maintaining the link and Basque feeling “Euskaltasuna,” and he spoke of music as “an essential expression of the culture of our people.”

Euzko Etxea in La Plata launches a consult to determine the design of a mural that will adorn the front of their clubhouse

Celebration of Children’s Day at the Euzko Etxea in La Plata

Images of the mural need to reflect what it means to “be Basque” and/or what it means to the community.  The work will be completed by students in Fine Arts at the National University of La Plata, but members and friends are also invited to participate in choosing the design. The club has uploaded a survey on its Facebook page to choose from various designs that include the Tree of Gernika, the Ikurriña, the Lauburu and San Fermin Festivities to mention a few.

In the last days of summer, “Udako Festa 2017 Summer Festival” is the name of the Basque program this weekend in Winnemucca and Paradise Valley, NV.  Along with this, Basque clubs in Colorado and Marin Sonoma, in northern California, are also hosting their annual picnics on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

In the year of its Sesquicentennial, the Euskal Juarez Group in Benito Juarez unveiled a plaque during the Immigrant Day festivities

As part of the city’s 150th anniversary, and during the Immigrant Day festivities, members of the Euskal Juarez Basque association unveiled a commemoratory plaque at the Monument of the Immigrants, located in the local cemetery.  The activities, in honor of the immigrants will last all week and will conclude with a show on September 22nd.

This Sunday Puerto Iguazu will inaugurate in Triple Frontera a mural and sculpture to remember “The Wheelbarrow Basque”

The local mayor, Claudio Raul Filippa, will unveil two artworks that commemorate Guillermo Larregui, known throughout Argentina as “The Wheelbarrow Basque,” in an event that will take place on Sunday, September 10th beginning at 11am.  The event is also part of the city’s 116th anniversary and will take place on Avenida Costanera in the city of Puerto Iguazu, 500 meters from Hito de la Triple Frontera, a meeting point between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.
