The Azkue Foundation in collaboration with the Saure Publishers has developed an online game whose goal is for users to use the Basque language. Jakina! Includes eight different topics, with 4,800 questions that include options for public or private competition with other users. Do you want to try it out? EuskalKultura.com will explain to you how it works.

Donostia-San Sebastian.  “Jakina! Basque Trivia” includes 4,800 questions about eight different topics and three levels of difficulty: Basque language and literature; leisure and sports; science and technology; geography and History; culture and art; film and shows; society and customs; music and dance.

The game can be accessed via: http://www.jakina.eu/ which requires registration before getting started.  Information required is: the username (for the game), name, email and password for the game. A new window will then open with the game’s statistics and then, on the toolbar at the top, you can click on “jokatu” (play) and select “partida berri bat sortu” (start a new game).

When you create a new game you have more possibilities: level of difficulty, number of players, public or private competition and the ability to choose one of the 8 categories.

The videogame was developed by the Azkue Foundation in collaboration with the Saure Publishing House.  According to its promoters the game “provides a fun and attractive teaching tool that provides the possibility to establish relationships among internet users in Basques.”  They assure that the Basque Trivia game “provides numerous possibilities for learning, practical application and development of the Basque language for both academia and leisure alike.”
