A reception at Mendiko Euzko Etxea’s remodeled clubhouse to celebrate Aberri Eguna in Bariloche, Patagonia

Friends of the Mendiko Euzko Etxea at the 2013 Festival of Communities (photo Ignacio Ezquerra) Even if the official event will take place, as always, in the Parade of Communities in Bariloche, following the ceremony and unlike other years, Basque club members will welcome local authorities and representatives of other communities at the newly remodeled clubhouse. The event will take place on April 26. Prior, on Saturday the 19th the night before Easter Sunday, the club will raffle a huge Easter Egg, that weighs 3 kg, and is decorated with the colors of the Ikurriña.

The Basque club at Saint Pierre et Miquelon is looking for musicians for its Basque Festival in August

Pilota and rural sports are regular features at the Saint Pierre et Miquelon Basque Festival (photohttp://www.tourisme-saint-pierre-et-miquelon.com) The League of Basque Pilota and the Saint Pierre et Miquelon Basque club, islands located south of Newfoundland, have published a call on the Euskal Kultur Erakundea’s website looking for musicians interested in traveling there and performing at its 33rd Basque Festival. The event will take place August 13-25th, with organizers providing travel, and lodging for three musicians.

Basque cyclist Iñaki Castañeda will cross the US on a hand bike to raise money for rare illnesses

This adventure will take place on the mythic Route 66 Iñaki Castañeda and Alfredo Olabegoia will leave tomorrow from Santa Monica, California, to begin a pioneer adventure on the mythic Route 66. Castañeda is attempting to become the first cyclist to cross the US, coast to coast, on a hand bike without a supporting car. Along the way, this team of veteran athletes, 62 and 66 years of age, hope to greet Basques or Basque clubs on their route. If this is your case, get in touch with them and go meet them.

The Bordeaux Basque club has organized a bike tour for 150 participants from Bordeaux to Bilbao

Promotional poster for Bordeaux-Bilbao 2014 The Bordeaux Basque club, in collaboration with various cyclist associations, has organized a bike tour that will take place May 8-10th. Other participating associations include: Stade Bordelais - ASPTT, Bera Bera (Donostia-San Sebastian) and Urgozo Iturriko Txirrindulari Elkartea (Bilbao). This sporting and cultural event has space for 150 participants and will tour from Bordeaux to Bilbao. Participants will be provided logistical support and lodging, as well as social and cultural activities to enjoy along the way.

The ballot to be presented at FEVA’s Assembly has been confirmed: Hugo Andiazabal is running for president

Hugo Andiazabal voting in the 2013 FEVA elections (photoEuskalKultura.com) With the deadline passed, only one list of candidates has been presented to cover the positions that will be voted on at FEVA’s next Assembly. The list is led by Hugo Andiazabal, candidate for president, along with Javier Ederra, secretary, and Pedro Mauregui Larranda as treasurer. Once the elections have concluded, Asier Vallejo, director of Basque Communities Abroad and Sara Pagola, Delegate of Euskadi in Argentina-Mercosur will visit the Assembly on behalf of the Basque Government. FEVA’s General Assembly will take place on April 26th at the Laurak Bat Basque club in Buenos Aires.

Basque Days 2014 begin tomorrow in Poznan, Poland: stories, film, dance, Basque and much more

Poznan Basque Days 2014 Promotional Poster The Basque language and culture lecturer at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland, organized Basque Days, Dni Baskijskie again this year. The event is a festival created with great participation of students and local groups and associations. The program of activities, that will begin tomorrow and will run through Friday, includes story tellers, the documentary Gazta zati bat, pintxo tastings and Begana food, an online contest on Basque culture, Basque dance workshops and various talks among other activities.

Rain and smaller attendance but joy and fellowship at the 8th Aberri Eguna in Cañuelas

The kalejira was shortened due to the bad weather but the buruhandia was there nonetheless (photoChivilcoyEE) The Denak Bat Basque club in Cañuelas, Argentina celebrated its 8th Dantzari Get-Together in conjunction with Aberri Eguna, Day of the Basque Homeland this weekend. Despite the bad weather, the festival was as usual except that it took place at the Cañuelas Soccer Club because of the rain. There were fewer in attendance compared to previous years with some groups that usually attend not being there. The organizers attribute these absences to the high costs of transportation.

So proud of their origins, every five years they organize a grand festival attracting Basques around the world at this sort of mecca of Basque pride. It was so influential that in 2002 the Idaho Parliament was, induced by Basque lobbying, involved in a diplomatic incident with the Spanish Embassy in the United States and then National Security Adviser to the White House Condoleezza Rice had to intervene. Welcome! Or perhaps more appropriately, ongi etorri!"

Friends of the Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea at its 119th anniversary celebration (photoIEE) Authorities from a large number of institutions joined in the 119th anniversary celebration of the Iparraldeko Basque Club in Buenos Aires. The event took place at the clubhouse and was a more informal gathering than previous celebrations that gathers members and friends to the site. Among those present was the Delegate of Euskadi in Argentina and Mercorsur, Sara Pagola who joined them for dinner and also said a few words to guests.

While the Olavarria Basque club organizes Aberri Eguna, it participated in the Malvinas anniversary

Members of Gure Etxe Maitea Basque club at the Malvinas event on April 2nd (photoEl Popular) The Gure Etxe Maitea Basque club in Olavarria, in the province of Buenos Aires will hold a dinner on April 5th to celebrate the Day of the Basque Homeland. The event is part of the large program of activities that the club has been holding since February as part of its main goal, to attract children to the Basque club. On the other hand, it also responded to a local invitation with members of the Gure Etxe Maitea participating in the Veteran’s Day and Fallen War Heroes of the War of Malvinas that took place at the allegorical Monument last Tuesday.
