A retrospective of the work of Basque-Mexican architect, Imanol Ordorika, will be on exhibit from September 4th to the end of the month at the Bizkaian Delegation of the Official College of Basque-Navarre Architects. Exiled to Mexico with his family at the age of eight, Ordorika grew up and was educated in Mexico, even if his work is representative of the contribution of exiles to the urban development in this Latin American country and towards the fusion of the two cultures.

Since the month of September the Basque club in Gral. Acha, in the Argentinean Province of La Pampa, has a new logo and new uniform for the athletes that represent the institution. Both designs were created by Melisa Gonzalez Poey and highlight elements of Basque culture. Together with this anouncement, Euzko Txokoa invites everyone to a dinner/dance scheduled for next Saturday.

This coming Saturday, September the 13th, is the last day to sign up for the 17th annual BCC Golf Invitational, hosted by the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center. The tournament will take place on the 27th at the Poplar Creek Golf Course in San Mateo. Alain Camou, main organizer of the event, told Euskalkultura.com that they expect “between 30 and 40 participants, similar to previous years.

Delegations from eighteen countries are in Mexico, where the Basque Pelota World Cup will begin this Thursday. There is a total of 347 pelotaris of various nationalities who will fight to take the title in their respective categories, in matches that will take place in Zinacantepec, in the state of Mexico. The Mexican Fronton Federation, organizer of the event, has prepared broad coverage of the Championship and will provide updates online, on Facebook and on Twitter.

The event was held at the Basque club and was attended by the current board of directors, and former presidents of the club, the Delegate of the Basque Government in Argentina, Sara Pagola, and Dr. Alberto Maiztegui, who received a touching tribute. The event ended afternoon with a presentation by the Cordobatarrak dance group; the festivities however, continued with lunch and a toast.

“Mexico is ready to welcome the participants (of the International Mus Championship), even tomorrow,” told Pablo Mendiburu to Euskalkultura.com. The 37 World Championship will be hosted in Cancun in October, after having been in Mexico four times before – in Mexico City (1981 and 1989) and in Acapulco (1999 and 2004). Along with Mendiburu, who feels “optimistic” about this edition, five other volunteers have been organizing the event: Juan José Echenique, Ramón Irigoyen, Juan José Arrieta, Agustín Palacios, and Josetxo Garaicoechea.

The Basque Center Itxaropen of Saladillo, in the Argentinean province of Buenos Aires, has made its Annual Regular Assembly and hold elections for the positions of its Board of Directors which expired this year, including vice president, treasurer, and some other. Thus, president Nora Idoeta will be acompanied this next year on the Board by Sergio Arteta, vice president; Hector Altamira, secretary; Silvina Sara Rondeau, deputy secretary; Susana Labere, treasurer; and Horacio Echeverría, deputy treasure.

Tomorrow, September the 6th, the Santa Rosa Basque Club will host its 4th annual picnic. It’s going to be a special event in a year the State of Nevada is celebrating its 150th anniversary, a fact that will be present in this Basque ‘festa’, as Richard Gavica, president of the Club, told Euskalkultura.com.

Basques from Washington DC will celebrate their annual festival tomorrow, September 6th. It’s going to be the sixth time these East-coasters gather for the so-called “Piperrapalooza Festival,” a combination of the words “piperra” (Basque for pepper) and Lollapalooza, a famous indie music festival, as Sam Zengotitabengoa, member of the Board of Directors, told Euskalkultura.com.

The event will take place in San Francisco de Bellocq on October 4th and 5th, with a program that will include touristic walks and a mus tournament, even a tortilla contest and Basque dance performances. Novelties this year will include a dance on Saturday night, and rural sports. Sponsored by the town of Tres Arroyos, “Between Land and Sea,” is organized by the institutions of San Francisco of Bellocq, the local Hiru Erreka Basque club and the tourism development group INTA Pampa Vasca.
