Javier Salvarredi Astargo was born in Mendoza (Argentina) 32 years ago. His life moves between the family vineyards and his activity as a leader in the Basque club, a great love for music and sport, and his job as a civil engineer. He says that with the crisis in Europe many in the Basque Country have written to the euskal etxea in Mendoza.

Every year the on September 18th herds of sheep are trailed off the mountain in Bardenas or Bardeak (Navarre) to spend the winter in this area in southern Navarre. It is one of the last places where trailing takes place that is also about to be lost, because this year marks the last time that this festival will take place. The Euskal Artzainak Ameriketan Association will be there and has decided to celebrate its 2014 annual festival in conjunction with the event, and specifically, one of its members, Jose Aguas, is in charge of starting the herds into the place.

Having some ‘picons’ with their family and friends in the backyard, that’s how the Santa Rosa Basque Club (NV) was created in 2004 in Paradise Valley, Nevada. Susan and Richard Gavica were there and he was chosen to be the president. This Saturday, September 6th, they will celebrate their fourth annual picnic, with that special joy that is felt at anniversaries.

Over the last few hours many Basque and Catalan tweeters have used #euskaraeslhora to share their favorite Basque word. The chain began at Barcelona’s Basque club, who launched this viral campaign to make Basque classes known and to publicize them at the beginning of the year. The idea is simple: anyone who receives the message should say what their favorite Basque word is, including its translation into Catalan, and then name three more people to do the same. It has arrived in the Basque Country from Catalonia, do you want to spread it to the Diaspora”

The beginning of the academic year and Basque classes is especially active this year in the Spanish region of Rioja where various towns have begun to form groups to study the Basque language starting in October. The local Laminiturri Basque club, who has supported these classes for several years in Logroño, published the availability of these courses on social media and the response was better than expected. Classes are now being organized in Logroño, Najera, Haro and Alfaro and there is also the possibility of forming more groups.
