From the Encierro at the Caracas EE to the San Fermin Carnival in Mexico; here is how it went in the Diaspora

Bulls from the Tribiño farm participated for another year in the San Fermin festivities in Caracas, Venezuela (photoCaracasEE) We continue to receive images from the San Fermin festivities organized in various Basque clubs in the Diaspora, with celebrations of all kinds – some including an encierro – but all including the desire to have a good time. In Caracas, for example, the Eusko Etxea gathered several members to enjoy the day with the undeniable attraction of bulls and the encierro that some brave folks were encouraged to run. From Mexico, images of a carnival-like party, with great atmosphere, and also in London, England and Syddey, Australia the celebration was remarkable. Images to follow.

Shoshone, Idaho is ready to host its second Basque Heritage Day, on Saturday August 2nd

Despite its long Basque history, last year was the first year Shoshone hosted the Basque Heritage Day (Photo Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce) The town of Shoshone in Lincoln County, Idaho is ready to host the second Basque Heritage Day, to be celebrated on Saturday, August 2nd. Organizers expect to surpass last year’s turnout: “Many people have shown their interest in taking part in this edition,” organizer Kathy Oneida told Euskalkultura.com.

2013 San Ignacio celebration at Necochea's Basque club (photoEE) Over the next few weeks the Necochea Basque club will offer an intense and wide range of proposals. Some tradition, like the celebration of St Ignatius and a tribute to the elder; and others that are newer, like a recital by singer Silvia Iriondo on July 26th at the Almodo Bar. The participation of youth on the Hator Hona program will also be included in all, as they arrive from Euskadi this Friday.

Organizers of the summer 2015 Athletic Club’s soccer match in Boise have already raised $100,000

Counting in kind donations, $100,000 has been raised so far, as organizer Argia Beristain told Euskalkultura.com.

The Azul Basque club made Monsignor Salaberry an honorary member at its 20th Anniversary Mass

Great atmosphere in Azul's Basque club celebrating its 20th Anniversary The Gure Txokoa in Azul, in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, celebrated its 20th birthday with festivities that gathered not only local community members, but also visitors from Basque clubs in Olavarria and Rauch. The program included the celebration of San Fermin and mass where Monsignor Hugo Manuel Salaberry, Bishop of the Diocese of Azul, was made an honorary club member.

The Basque Women’s Softball Selection will compete in a tournament in British Columbia next week

Some of the players selected to represent the Basque Country next week in Canada belong to the Bate Bizkorrak team of Orio (photoOBB) According to the EKFB (United Federation of Basque Sports) the Basque Softball Selection will travel this Sunday to Canada to participate in the international Canadian Open Fastpitch Tournament that will take place July 15-21 in Surrey, British Columbia where the Basque colors will be one of 90 participating teams.

Basque-American politician, Adam Laxalt, participates in Elko’s National Basque Festival Parade

"With the next generation of Basque dancers at the Elko Basque Festival #BasquePride" Adam laxalt wrote on this photo on his Facebook page Virtually unknown in Nevada, until a few years ago, Basque-American, Adam Laxalt entered into his political career with much media attention and with a number of leading Republican supporters. His last name, Laxalt, is part of the political and literary history of Nevada: his grandfather, Paul Laxalt, governor of the state and senator was known as President Reagan’s “best friend,” while his great uncle, Robert Laxalt, told the best-selling story Sweet Promised Land, the story of his father, Dominique, a sheepherder from Zuberoa and his dream of returning to the Basque Country before dying. Adam Laxalt was at the Elko Basque Festival and participated in the parade, during his campaign for Nevada’s Attorney General.

Ben Berriochoa, Mountain Home native, says that being connected to Saint Valentine is “a source of pride”

It doesn’t make me any better, but (having a Saint in my family) makes me proud to have a name and an origin. It’s like being Basque,” Ben Berriotxoa told Euskalkultura.com. The Basque province of Bizkaia celebrated last July 4th the festivity of Saint Valentine Berriochoa, born in 1827 in Elorrio (Bizkaia). It was also celebrated at the Basque festival in Elko, Nevada.

San Fermin continues to fill Basque and Navarran clubs in Argentina with music and red neckerchiefs

San Fermin 2014 at Argentinean Basque and Navarran clubs The tradition gets stronger and stronger every year, with the wave of red neckerchiefs starts in Pamplona and reaches to Argentina to cover the streets and the Basque and Navarran clubs all over the country. These festival dates include in Argentina July 9th (public holiday, Argentinean Independence Day) so the festivities have always left a space for the blue and white to join in on San Fermin.

Anabel Jaureguiberry: “Both Neuroimmunology and Euskera are part of my life here in Buenos Aires”

Anabel Jaureguiberry begun learning Basque in 2008 in Buenos Aires. In 2012 she got her first official degree and now she enjoys helping a couple of hours a week those that are just starting out, at the Euskaltzaleak Basque language school of Buenos Aires

Anabel Jaureguiberry always knew that she was going to dedicate herself to Neurology. Born in Tandil, Argentina, she studied in Buenos Aires and from the beginning she leapt into Neuroimmunology until becoming what she is today, at the age of 37, a prestigious professional.
