The Governing Council of the Regional Government of Bizkaia approved the signing of an agreement yesterday with the University of Nevada, Reno in order to disseminate international research on the Economic Concert of the Basque Country and its relationship with the federal tax systems in the United States. The agreement, supported by the Bizkaian regional treasury, establishes the appointment of two experts, currently working at the Provincial Government, to spend three months, one in 2015 and the other in 2016 at the Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR).

Once again, the great Basque Diaspora festival in Argentina became a display for Basque clubs to show what they have been working on all year long. In the case of November 7th, the main activity, without a doubt was music, thanks to choirs, musicians, soloists and groups that provided Basque songs and melodies, on various instruments and in different ways. The Euskal Etxea in Berlin will begin the second edition of its Basque Film Festival on Thursday and it will run until Sunday. This year, the focus will be on the documentary and will present three films that give a look at Basque reality: Alardearen seme-alabak (Sons and Daughters of the Alarde), Emak Bakia (Leave Me Alone), and Asier ETA biok (Asier and I). In addition, Sunday will close with a selection of short films from the Kimuak Program.

Semana Nacional Vasca 2014 concluded yesterday, Sunday, in La Plata the capital of the province of Buenos Aires. It ended with a farewell meal attended by nearly 1,000 people – 980 according to the information given EuskaKultura.com by the organizers – putting a perfect end to a busy week. The night before, 30 dance groups from all over the country and Uruguay participated along with a concert by the group, Itziarren Semeak, at the Basque club itself with 1,300 tickets sold. Everyone was extremely pleased with the events, especially president of the hosting club Javier Clua.

In a few months a very festive and participatory event, Korrika, will return to the Basque highways for the 19th time. Korrika will begin in Urepele (Lower Navarre) on March 19th and will end in Bilbao on the 29th of the same month. Even though it’s a long way off, many volunteers and runners from all over Euskal Herria have already started getting organized. Korrika contacted EuskalKultura.com to make a special invitation to the Diaspora that has participated in prior editions as well raising awareness for Euskera making its claim all over the world. Once again we are joining it and invite you to join in the race from London to Australia and from Quebec to Patagonia. Takin part is easy. Try it!

Boiseko Ikastola, the Basque preschool in Boise, Idaho will change its location by June 1, 2015. After more than 16 years at the St. Paul’s Catholic Center on the Boise State University campus, Boiseko Ikastola will be relocating, as the Basque Museum of the town announced. “We are trying to find a place as close to downtown as possible, that will meet all the kids’ needs,” said Patty Miller, director of the institution, to EuskalKultura.com.

Everything is ready in La Plata to host the final Fireworks of the Semana Nacional Vasca Argentina 2014. A varied proposal of activities that has marked the path for a weekend attended by a large number of people from across Argentina and neighboring countries as well as from the Basque Country. “We want everyone to feel at home. We know that it wasn´t easy for many to be here for the weekend so we want to do our best to respond to their expectations,” Javier Clua president of the hosting club told EuskalKultura.com. “This is a time to get together and have a good time, as they say in the Basque Country in one word: Festara! ‘Ondo pasa’ have a great time.”

From January 16-February 17, dantzari and txistulari Patxi Perez will be in Argentina, where he will teach workshops on Basque dance at any and all clubs that would like him to. Perez is an expert in this type of workshop and popular dances such as “mutxikoak,” along with his group Patxi eta Konpainia. “A friend invited me and my wife to come to Patagonia, and we decided to take advantage of the trip to do workshops at Basque clubs. With dance groups, members, and children and even at the euskaltegis, united dance and euskera…there are many possibilities.” We let tell you how you can have this expert at your club too.

The dream trip isn’t that far away for those who enjoy the Euskal Herria daily and still haven’t been able to go, or who want to go again, to visit the land of the Basques. This proposal comes from Mariana Domine Irigoyen, a reference of the Arrecifes Basque club who has experience in these kinds of tours. Returning the visit paid by the Navarran Basque club to the Guillermo Larregui club on its first Dantzari Get-Together, the Chacabuco Basque club participated with its dance group at the Navarran institution’s birthday. With dancing, live music and a tempting menu, the festivities that was a preview of what will be in store for the 120th anniversary of the Centro Navarro in Buenos Aires that will take place next year.
