From the late 19th to mid-20th Centuries, herds of sheep roamed the High Sierra meadows, managed by sheepherders; most of them were Basque immigrants. The sheepherders eased their boredom by making their mark on the landscape: carving symbols and artwork on aspen trees where the sheep grazed. I was recently given the opportunity to discover some of this artwork, known as arborglyphs, with two passionate devotees to the art.

A bridge is the nexus that links two paths, two worlds or two cultures; it is an element of communication that brings two distant or opposing points closer together. Boise no es un caso aislado. Al igual que muchas de las ciudades del mundo, el debate sobre los beneficios y perjuicios que trae el crecimiento ocupa la agenda política y social de la ciudad. El fenómeno está suscitando asimismo el interés nacional y en este contexto hay que situar los incontables artículos y análisis que está mereciendo una ciudad que de no ser excesivamente considerada hoy lidera todas las clasificaciones. Para el lector que no conoce de cerca lo que hoy significa Boise, valga como dato que desde el año 1970 pasó de tener una población de 74,990 a 144,665 en 1990 y de ahí a los 218. 677 de 2016. Donostia contaba en 1970 con 165.829. En 1990 pasó a tener 183.944. Desde entonces hasta 2016, el crecimiento ha sido modesto, 186.377 en 2016.
