The Euskaltegi will begin its 2015 course next Thursday, March 12, with an activity to begin addressing the Basque culture. The workshop will run for three weeks to later link with the beginning of regular courses. The number of courses and levels is large and enrollment is open from Tuesday March 3, every day from 11-2pm and 6pm-8pm, at the clubhouse.

It’s been half a century already since Salaburu left Elizondo (Navarre) and Sorhouet fled from Arnegi (Lower Navarre), both to come to the US. On February 15, the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center awarded them with its Bizi Emankorra prize, “because they have been helping and supporting the Basque Cultural Center for so many years.” Sorhouet looks back and says it was an honor for him. Pedro Salaburu adds that “the Basque Club has helped us a lot.”

Boise State University (BSU) has announced a new edition of the Basque Ph.D. Scholarships, assistantships for Basque students. Grants are for one year, in which students may pursue a Ph.D. in this University The scholarships range between $18,000-$25,000 and include full tuition. Deadline to apply is March 15, 2015.

She is an interior designer. Even though she is originally from California, she has lived in Salt Lake City for years where she combines her daily American life with the atmosphere and Basque heritage that she received from her parents, and that she works hard to transmit to her children. Monique Heguilustoy Flesher is a US Basque in Utah.

The original design was done by Manuel Ignacio Campoamor Ascacibar, member of the Gure Ametza Basque club in Rio Cuarto, Cordoba and it will be used on all of the promotional materials for the 25th anniversary of Argentinan Euskaraz. The image combines the number 25 with the colors of the Basque and Argentinean flags.

The Gure Txoko Basque club in Valladolid, Spain inaugurated its clubhouse 32 years ago and since then, it has become the social center of a group of Basques. Recently, 50 members gathered to celebrate the anniversary with a meal followed by an acoustic concert by a group of its Basque students. The performance was wonderful, according to club sources, mixing old and new songs like “Ilargia” or “Negua Joan da ta.” Zorionak Gure Txoko!

The Arrecifes Basque club opened its doors to welcome more than 100 guests. There was dancing, and a large delegation from the Pergamino Basque club, and a birthday cake. Now, and during the entire month of March, the club prepares its 2015 activities that will include a recreational singing workshop run by Mariana Dominé

The 19th edition of Korrika, the race in favor of the Basque language, will arrive for the first time in Cancun, thanks to local euskaltzales. The event will have a very special character, as organizers have explained to EuskalKultura.com, the goal is to introduce and experience Euskera as well as support the recuperation and the social visibility of the Mayan language.

The project supported by the Basque club is aimed at gathering stories and testimonies of the Basque families who settled in San Juan. The book, is considered a tribute to “our ancestors,” that will also allow “to save the forgotten stories that would otherwise be lost with the passing of time.” Anyone who would like to contribute should do so by June 30. Eusko Etxea will laso participate, next Friday, in the Sun Festival with a float dedicated to Basque music.

The Official Bulletin of the Basque Country (EHAA-BOPV) published the Resolution of December 2014 in yesterday’s edition that includes 2014 grant awards to Basque clubs and federations. Even though the content was already known, yesterday’s publication begins the time limits established by law. We have provided the entire list of grants and who they were awarded to.
