Over the last few years, the Euskal Etxea in Pergamino has enjoyed a beautiful recovery, the fruit of the constant work of members and friends of the club and resulting in a big injection of energy contributed by the club’s youth in including its dantzaris. That is why its 65th anniversary was especially joyful and included a vast program that allowed showing the community some of the history aspects of the Basque culture.

The International Fair in Havana, FIHAV 2016, concluded last Friday, a gathering that included the distinguished participation of Basque businesses and institutions, with the some 30 Basque businesses in attendance and representation from the Basque Government, Chambers of Commerce and the Provincial Governments in Araba, Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia. The event served to reinforce business relations between the Basque Country and Cuba that already has several Basque companies established in its territory.

The three founding members of the travel agency Bask in Motion that emerged last year in Errenteria (Gipuzkoa) as an initiative to help those Basque clubs and members of the Diaspora who wish to visit and take full advantage of a trip to Euskal Herria to experience the country and research their origins, will be in Argentina over the coming weeks. With a successful experience with two first Basque groups from Argentina, they will now offer their services to any Basque club that wishes to give their members and friends the possibility to travel to Euskal Herria. “Talk to us and I’m sure we eill be able to help you,” they say.

The Festival of Communities in the city of Neuquen, Argentina took place last weekend beginning on Friday night. It was very well attended and included the participation of groups from the local communities. Euskal Herria was also represented by the Euskal Etxea in Comahue in the parade as well as at the stands.

This Saturday, November 19th the Belgian town of Lendelede, in the province of Flandes Occidental, will be the site of the first local Txitxiburduntzi, organized by Manu Behaeghe, a Belgian of Basque origin, with roots in Zarautz. The goal is to introduce the Basque culture and gastronomy to Belgium, while raising money for the Olabe Project, a project trying to recover an ancient farmhouse in Bedarona, Bizkaia.

The official kick-off for Semana Nacional Vasca Argentina 2016 is on next Monday, although as every year, the main activity will take place on Saturday and Sunday. Kalakan will perform on Friday on their mini-tour through Argentina and Uruguay. What better way to get ready for this year’s festivities than by reliving last year’s event in Macachin! The Argentine tour of dance master Patxi Perez, will stop this week in Necochea for the Semana Nacional Vasca 2016. The tour includes stops in places from Buenos Aires to Corpus Christi, Llavallol, Tres Arroyos, and later in Bariloche. It had a special beginning on Corpus Christi, Misiones, where besides teaching a dance workshop, Perez, along with the local Basque club, also made a book donation to schools in the community Mbya-guaraní.

The Etxepare Basque Institute will launch the Basque Language and Culture Lectureship at the University of Havana on November 22nd. Classes will be taught by writer Joseba Sarrionandia. Winner of the Euskadi Prize for Literature in 2011, Sarrionandia is a prolific writer and has been in hiding for 31 years, since his prison escape in 1985 from the Martutene jail. During this time he has become one of the most relevant figures in current Basque literature.

Thanks to Carlos Gabilondo, the Pinamar Series that began in April continues to attract more and more people. Last weekend some 50 people gathered at the Manuel Belgrano Library, “It was a great number, especially if you realize that there is not an organized Basque community in there,” Gabilondo told EuskalKultura.com.
