Maybe even better, sometimes good things come from bad, and in the opinion of some the new plaques are nicer and they also took advantage to update and improve some of the texts on them. The installation took place in October and now the monument can once again be visited as it was, having recuperated its original splendor in Rancho San Rafael Park.

And when we say their best, we mean choreographies, costumes and attitude that took the stage. The audience appreciated the work in spreading Basque culture done by the dantzaris and accompanied them during the show with warm applause. Saturday evening at the Semana Nacional includes a brief review of dances, rehearsed during the year, by the youth at the various Basque clubs. This is their chance to perform what they have been practicing for hours. The effort wasn’t in vain as each group received well-deserved applause. Saturday was also full of applause and recognition of Basque teachers in Argentina who received awards during the Mintzodromo, as well as recognition from Basques in Zubieta.

Joseba Attard, is English whose mother is Basque, and is someone who isn’t afraid to take a 180 in his life and jump into an adventure. At the age of 27 he came to the Basque Country to live so that his family wouldn’t lose Euskera. Here, he has been a graphic designer, surfer and sheep shearer. Now, with his wife (who is also English) and their daughter, he has embarked on the recuperation of a 400 year-old baserri in Bedarona, Bizkaia to convert it into a cultural center.

The Basque community in Venezuela had a special day last Saturday with the inauguration of a Basque Monolith that commemorates the Basque presence in the Valleys of Aragua. In 1768, a group of Basque decided to start growing Indigo, a key industry in the history of the area. This inauguration is the first on the Route of the Basques, an initiative of recovery of the historic Basque memory supported by the Federations of Basque Centers in Venezuela. Well-known Basque-Argentine writer from Coronel Moldes includes in her book Country Basque Cooking some 50 recipes inherited from her immigrant grandparents. “The idea is to recovery the memory of our families,” she said in an interview (that follows) published in the local newspaper Puntal after her appearance on the TV show ”My Way” on Channel 13, along with others form the Gure Ametza Basque Club in Rio Cuarto.

Throughout the weekend, various units from the large Necochea Basque club, as well as other streets and venues in the city were decorated in red, green and white with the presence of hundreds of people who came from all over Argentina, as well as Uruguay, Brazil, and Chile to celebrate Semana Nacional Vasca 2016. The electronic newsletter Jazoera has been keeping us apprised of news form the Venezuelan Basque community since 2011 directed by Pedro Javier Arriaga. Now, the newsletter has announced that with the support of Yunior Lobo, it will now debut its own You Tube Channel that will include videos of activities that take place at Venezuelan Basque clubs.
