To celebrate Euskera Day, the Azkue Foundation has presented the 2.0 version of Mintzatu, a website that includes places where Basque is spoken in the world. Innovations include versions for smartphones, more resources, games and a contest that will reward outstanding users. There will be checks of 100 Euros to spend on a online book and music store to the user that creates the largest number of tags in different places (and gets the most towns) and for whoever gets the largest number of hidden trophies. Good luck!

Bilbao, Bizkaia.  The Azkue Foundation has presented a new version of Mintzatu today, improved and renewed and with new resources available for its users.  Its goal is to create a network of places in the world where Basque is spoken and where Basques are found.  The mechanism is very simple; all you have to do is register on Mintzatu.com and create a tag on the places on the map where Basque is spoken.  These places can be a Basque club, euskaltegi, a store, or a private residence…

After its first year, the website has already numerous places tagged but Mintzatu wants to weave an even thicker web so Azkue improved the website with new tools.  One of the main ones is the development of new applications for smartphones that allow access to the system easily from cell phones.  The app for the system iOS can be downloaded here; and for Androids here.

The Azkue Foundation stresses the importance of users’ involvement since it is them who create the places that appear on Mintzatu.  It also stressed the participation of Basque clubs that could consider it a very useful tool, not only for the club’s visibility and promotion of its activities, crating labels for initiatives, festivities and events in favor of Basque that are organized by them.
