Just as in other corners of the Diaspora, Korrika started in Argentina even before the race started in the Basque Country in Urepel, and finished just after the original version of the race in favor of Euskera in Bilbao.  Over the last week, it was celebrated at the Euskal Echea Institute – Capital and Llavallol – the city of La Plata and Villa Maria.  Photos and videos here.

Basque Government delegate in Argentina-Mercosur, Sara Pagola, met with representatives of the Mendiko Euzko Etxea in Bariloche and the recently created Euskal Txokoa Basque Club in San Martin de los Andes.  In both cities, she participated in programs organized by the clubs that explained their situation and the activities that they carry out.

The “An End to the Basque Conflict?” symposium awakened the curiosity of the audience at the University of Liverpool

The symposium, “An End to the Basque Conflict?” celebrated on March 26 at the University of Liverpool, gathered a large number of participants that debated long and hard on the Basque conflict, and the current situation of Euskal Herria. One of the talks that aroused greater interest was that of Lehendakari Juan Jose Ibarretxe.  This symposium concludes this year’s activities of the Manuel Irujo Fellowship Chair.

The Havana Basque club is organizing a Basque Week focused in Euskara to celebrate Aberri Eguna

Another series of talks on Basque culture begins at the Pedro Goyena Library in Quilmes, Argentina

For the second year in a row, the Pedro Goyena Library opens its doors to the Basque community to carry out a series of talks that will address historic questions about Euskal Herria from very diverse perspectives.  The first talk of this year took place last Friday, by Professor Luis Luquez, who talked about the arrival of Basques to Newfoundland.

The Euskal-Argentina Association will hold its annual assembly this Saturday in Donibane Garazi

Euskal Argentina will hold its 2015 General Assembly on March 28th in Donibane Garazi.  Besides evaluating its activities and finances, those gathered will also review the successful trip to Chile-Argentina and future plans like a meeting of entities related to Argentina, the Nantes archive, and Semana Vasca 2015 in Macachin.  To conclude the meeting, a book on Argentina will be presented by Gaby Etchebarne.

As every year, members of the Gure Txoko Basque Club in Valladolid made an escape last weekend to Euskal Herria.  It was a two-day trip where they visited Donostia, had lunch at the Calonge cider house in Igeldo, and visited Durango on the next day.

Good weather helped Gardnerville’s Mus Tournament: Miguel Perez and Agustin Oroz beat 65 other teams to take first

March in Gardnerville, Nevada is an unpredictable month regarding the weather – it may be snowing like there is no tomorrow, but the sun may also welcome visitors. This last one was the case on Saturday, when Mendiko Euskaldun Cluba celebrated its annual Mus Tournament. “It was another successful edition,” said Becky Sarratea, president of the Basque Club, to EuskalKultura.com. “The good weather helped to attract more players.” Miguel Perez and Agustin Oroz won the tournament.

Korrika 19 arrived in Navarre and will pass the baton for two days across this province.  But the message in favor of Euskera has surpassed the borders of the Basque country again, and thanks to the Diaspora, it has arrived in Necochea, Liverpool, Madrid, Berlin, Medellin….Following is a gallery of photos, and some video, whose joy and enthusiasm are contagious and examples of a lifetime working in favor of the Basque culture.  Mila esker!

Unai Zaballa Clares: “Students in Illinois don’t know anything about Euskadi or Euskera, but I sense a clear interest”

Unai Zaballa Clares is in March, 2015 one of the founders of the Artaburu Basque Club at the Illinois State University in Normal, IL

He is originally from Getxo, Bizkaia and twenty-three years old.  After studying Modern Languages at Deusto University he has been in Illinois since August doing a Masters in Linguistics while teaching Spanish at the University.  He is one of the founders of the Artaburu Basque club at Illinois State University.
