The club’s Annual Assembly and a partial election was held at the Euskaldunak Denak Bat Basque Argentinean club in Arrecifes, north of Buenos Aires.  The meeting, led by Omar Gorostidy included the election of some of the board of directors, including the vice-president and some other positions.  Juan Lucio Agotegary Echaniz was elected vice-president with Alicia Biain elected pro-secretary and Ana Idigoras as the pro-treasurer.  Election results.

Basque clubs in France are looking at coordinating to carry out joint events in some areas

The Basque clubs in France that are officially recognized by the Basque Government, met last Saturday.  The presidents and highest representatives of clubs from Paris, Bordeaux and Pau met at Lagunt eta Maita in Pau, hoping to get to know each other better and take advantage of these relationships as well as coordinate to improve their effectiveness.  The Basque Government’s Director of the Basque Community Abroad, Asier Vallejo Itsaso, also attended as a guest as well as guest speaker.

The US Basque Festival Season 2015 kicked off last weekend in Fresno, with over 650 people at Rancho Vista del Río

Every year the Fresno one kicks off the annual Basque picnic and gathering summer season

The Fresno Basque Club hosted last weekend the first US Basque festival of the 2015 season, at Rancho Vista del Río. “Everything went very well, I think people really had a great time,” said Manuela Etchechury, dance instructor of the club, to EuskalKultura.com. In fact, there were about a hundred people more than last year.

A group of 27 travelers from Chacabuco will leave for the Basque Country on September 27

The idea was born in the Guillermo Larregui Basque club and will include a tour over 11 days in the Basque Country to visit some of its most representative places as well as four more days in Rome.  With 27 passengers the trip is now closed, however, interested parties can speak to organizers and get information on future excursions.  While the final details for the trip are being confirmed, the club has also announced its forthcoming activities including a taberna today, May 8.

Jaialdi will take place in July-August in Boise, and will attract thousands of visitors from the US Basque community, Basques from abroad, as well as a big number of Americans. The "39 Rooms Film Festival" of Boise (an event independent from Jaialdi) will also join in the Basque vibe, with a Basque Short Film Showing. They are now accepting shorts, that can be in any language, but subtitled in English.

Izaskun Kortazar will start teaching beginning Euskera in various Brazilian cities starting this Saturday

Izaskun Kortazar’s first Basque classes in Brazil will begin this Saturday in Sao Paulo.  This begins a month-long tour that will include teaching in several cities of the country.  Born in Bilbao and resident in the US for the last dozen of years, Kortazar teaches at Boise State University (BSU). She has been NABO language coordinator for a number of years and now, being the Basque language teaching specialist seh is, Izaskun will teach introductory Basque classes in Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre, Uruguayana and Pelotas.

Basques in Florida, Uruguay are satisfied with the inclusion of Picasso’s Guernica on its “Route of Murals”

El Mural de la Paz de la ciudad de Florida será el único en su tipo en todo Uruguay

The work, supported by the city’s General Directorate of Sustainable Development, and Tourism, is located at the south entrance of the city and aspires to become a place for reflection on “the totalitarian overflow and the struggle for life and peace.” Painted by local artist, Jorge Romero, it is expected to be inaugurated in 10 days or so, as the National Deputy, Jose Andres Arocena, told EuskalKultura.com.

The course on Basque film for this year’s Koldo Mitxelena Chair, at the University of Chicago, begins today

The course for this year’s Koldo Mitxelena Chair begins today, supported by the Etxepare Basque Institute.  This year’s theme is Basque film that will cover its beginnings, themes, current and contemporary cinema, among other topics.  Classes will be taught by Pilar Rodriguez (University of Deusto) and Rob Stone (University of Birmingham).

Last week a new supporter group of Athletic of Bilbao debuted in the Internet: it is called Boiseko Athletic Club Peña, and it is a soccer fan club based in Idaho, USA. The Basque community there is mainly descended form emigrants from Bizkaia, so, it is only natural that most Boise Basques are fans of Athletic. The Peña is eagerly waiting the Basque Soccer Friendly Match that will bring Athletic to Boise in July 29th. "We are all really excited at this once in a lifetime opportunity to enjoy a first class soccer game in Boise", says Henar Chico, president of the group.

The Tandil Basque club officially inaugurated its Jantoki (restaurant) with a pintxo-afaria (pintxo dinner) that gathered 100 people including members, friends and dantzaris.  Its new board of directors, with Maria Lidia Harguindeguy as its new president, and Esteban Kain as vice-president, announced new activities including a Mus Tournament that will take place on May 22.
