Two Basque filmmakers from Iparralde, Iban Ruisiñol and Nicolas Novion are finalizing a documentary project on the most broadcast news in 2012 in the world of Basque culture: Kalakan’s tour with Madonna. The directors wondered about the possibility of recording a week of rehearsals for the tour, but during the process, the documentary transformed into something else: a reflection on Basque culture, globalization, on tradition and modernity, with the participation of artists like Berri Txarrak, dantzari Jon Maya and director Asier Altuna. The project is now looking for the last funding boost with a crowdfunding campaign.

Donostia-San Sebastian. Filmmakers Iban Rusiñol and Nicolas Novion are finalizing a documentary on Madonna’s tour that Kalakan participated in and has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise the last funds needed.  Twenty five days are left to raise the 12, 600 Euros necessary to finish the project.  If the money isn’t raised in time, then everything will have to be returned.

Despite the response received until now, raising the entire amount is necessary to finish the project, and its creators have made an appeal to Basques in the world and have invited them to participate.  In exchange for their contribution (starting at 5 Euros) they will receive DVD of the film, appear in the credits and acknowledgements or have the pleasure of an acoustic Kalakan concert at home!

According to the directors, when they had the opportunity in 2012 to record a week from inside the tour, they didn’t give it a second thought.  It was a unique opportunity.  Later, as the project advanced they saw the meeting of different styles, different kinds of artists as different as Kalakan and Madonna as much as Basque culture and globalization, tradition and modernity…The documentary reflects on these questions and in addition to Kalakan, other creators and artists also embark on the process like Berri Txarrak, choreographer Jon Maya or film director Asier Altuna.  A breakthrough in the trailer for the documentary:
