The program includes the open sessions of the Bernardo Atxaga Chair at CUNY (City University of New York), talks at Columbia University and the clubhouse as part of the “A History of the Basques in New York” conference and more festive and commemorative events including mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral celebrated by Bishop Josu Iriondo, a Centennial Gala and participation in the Columbus Day Parade. Lehendakari Urkullu is expected to attend along with the Deputy General of Bizkaia, Jose Luis Bilbao, as well as artists, Kalakan, Amuma Says No, Soprano Amaia Arbera, and Zortzi by Christophe Pavia and Adelaide Daraspe.

New York, NY.  The final program has been published by the Eusko Etxea, barring any last minute changes, from October 7-14 to commemorate the New York Basque club’s Centennial, the oldest club in the US.

Events include the open sessions organized by the Etxepare Basque Institute as part of the Bernardo Atxaga Chair at CUNY in Manhattan, the Euskal Herria Mugaz Gaindi (EHMG) conference that will take place at Columbia and at the Basque clubhouse.  More festive events such as concerts, dance performances, Zortzi show and the NABO meeting, picnics and Centennial Gala, mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Columbus Day Parade start on Friday. 

Lehendakari Urkullu will be in attendance, leading a delegation of authorities from various departments as part of a trip to the US htat will also include stops in Washington DC and Wisconsin.  There will also be another delegation with the Provincial Government of Bizkaia led by Deputy General Jose Luis Bilbao.

-Amuma Says No from Boise, ID
-Utah-ko Triskalariak dancers from Salt Lake City, UT
-Urki dance group from Andoain Gipuzkoa
-Soprano Amaia Arberas from Donostia/New York
-San Antonio de Iralabarri Choir from Bilbao
-the Zortzi show by Christophe Pavia and Adelaide Darraspe from Hendaia/Quebec

The Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of New York, Josu Iriondo will be celebrating mass. San Antonio de Iralabarri choir will sing during the mass.

CHOIR SAN ANTONIO DE IRALABARRI

Choir San Antonio de Iralabarri will give a Basque Concert in the Holy Family Church, next to the United Nations.

1:15pm- 2:00pm

BASQUE DANCES & PICNIC. Basque Dances and Picnic, in Dag Hammarskjold concrete plaza next to the United Nations.

The dance groups Urki from Andoain and Utahko' Triskalariak from Salt Lake City will be performing. You are welcome to bring your own meal, note that alcohol and smoking is forbidden in the plaza. The Basque Club will not provide food.

The Parade usually marches up Fifth Avenue from 44th to 72nd Street with red carpet performances on Fifth Avenue between 67th and 69th Streets.

- Ikurriña
- Basque neckerchief (zapia)

You are also welcome to bring your traditional Basque Costumes/Dress or music instruments. Please do not bring backpacks or any big bag.
