New York’s Euzko Etxea is preparing the Centennial of its creation next year. The New York center was the first Basque club founded in the US, and during the years has played a key role welcoming and helping Basque emigrants who came to the US through this city. Club members are already working on a full program of commemorative activities which will take place throughout the year. On September 22 they held a Gala to raise funds for the Centennial organization that was a taste of the twelve-month program to come.

New York, NY.  Euzko Etxea of New York will celebrate its Centennial in 2013 and its members are working to develop and finalize the program of activities. To warm their engines in light of the huge celebration next year the club organized a Fundraising Gala where they raised money to organize the Centennial activities.  The event also served to kick off the twelve months of activities that will be the prelude to the great Centennial Gala that will take place in October 2013.

This first gala was the start of the activities that will take place at the Basque clubhouse in Brooklyn and attendees came in black tie attire, as the occasion required.  The dinner was prepared by member Iñaki Lete who donated the food and drink as well as his serving as chef for the evening.  Two Basque restaurants in the area, Txikito (Manhattan, NY, Eder Montero) and Casa Vasca (Newark, NJ, Gema Aurre), donated vouchers for dinners and other anonymous donors gave gifts and objects that were raffled off during the night.  Money raised as well ticket sales will go towards Centennial events.

A photo exhibit will take place from October 28 through November 4 at the Euzko Etxea featuring photos by journalist Koitz Foncillas.

On November 17 the Euzko Etxea will celebrate Gayaldi and on December 2 it will hold various events on the occasion of the Day of the Basque Language.  On Saturday December 22, St. Thomas will be celebrated along with the Olentzero and another photo exhibit will take place featuring the work of Antonio Castro (TBA).
