New York Basque club’s Centennial celebration program starts today

New York’s Basque club celebrates 100 years of life and the centennial celebration has converted the city into a Basque and Diaspora cultural center this week. Coinciding with the event, the Atxaga Chair program begins today at CUNY, supported by the Etxepare Basque Institute with various events that are open to the public. On Thursday the Euskal Herria Mugaz Gaindi seminar will take place, this its tenth year, and on the weekend festivities will continue with concerts, shows and a Centennial Gala celebration. Following is the program of events.

New York, NY.  This week Basque culture will be featured in New York City where several cultural, social and academic activities coincide with the Centennial Celebration of the New York Basque club, the oldest club in the country.

Today marks the beginning of this year’s Atxaga Chair program, under the direction of invited professor Jasone Cenoz.  Classes will take place through Friday, but today’s and tomorrow’s sessions will be open to the public and there will also be a concert included.  Thursday marks the beginning of this year’s Diaspora Euskal Herria Mugaz Gaindi seminar, while the festivities will reach their peak this weekend with the Centennial Celebration.
