This Friday and Saturday the Basque language will be featured at The Language Show 2012 in London, thanks to the Etxepare Basque Institute. As in previous edition, the Institute will have a Basque stand and has also organized a series of events like talks, get-togethers and two presentations on Bertsolaritza. Xabi Paya, Basque lecturer at the University of Birmingham and bertsolari himself will be in charge of talking about the Basque tradition of oral improvisation, as well as sing a few verses. The special events will conclude with a talk on the Basque language by Ivan Igartua and a class offered by Juan Arana lecturer at the University of Liverpool.

London, England.  This weekend the Etxepare Basque Institute will participate in The Language Show language fair in London where it will provide information on the Basque language, its current status, regulations, history, methods to learn it, grammar etc.  In addition to its regular activities the Institute has also organized special sessions and talks.

On Friday for example, Bertsolari Xabi Paya (Basque language lecturer at the University of Birmingham) will give two talks on Bertsolarismo, where he will also demonstrate the art of improvisational verse live.   Other activities that day include a Basque class given by Juan Arana lecturer at the University of Liverpool.  On Saturday the Etxepare Institute will hold a presentation entitled, “The Sociolinguistic situation in the Basque Country,” by Ivan Igartua.

From Frankfurt to London

Last week the Etxepare Institute was at the International Book Fair in Frankfurt, Germany, one of the largest fairs on the European, or even international level.  The Institute was represented from October 10-14 along with Basque editors. The goal of the Basque delegation was to promote the diffusion of the works of Basque editors throughout the world, and to this end the Institute presented a catalog “10 Books from the Basque Country,” that includes information on 10 Basque writers and their work, in Spanish and English.

Additionally, in order to get the catalog to as many international editors as possible, Mari Jose Olaziregi, literary critic and director for the promotion and diffusion of Euskera at the Institute held meetings with agents from all over the world.
