In the Basque Country the drums have gone silent, but in Argentina there are many Basques getting ready to celebrate San Sebastian Day this Friday and Saturday, hosted by Necochea’s Basque club. The Tamborrada (or Danborrada) celebration at this Basque club is one of the largest outside of the Basque Country which attracts friends from other Basque centers, every year, who are invited to play with the local tamborreros. This year’s celebration was pushed back a week due to the Festival of Communities in which the club participated.

Necochea, Argentina.  San Sebastian Day will be celebrated at the Basque club from Friday on, in which, as every year, playing the Danborrada will play a central role.  This year’s event was postponed a week due to the Festival of Communities that was celebrated last week.

The Basque club participated in the festival with a stand at the Jardin Frances at the Miguel Lillo Park, offering samples of traditional Basque food.  In addition, the club’s dance group, Gazte Alai, performed a variety of Basque dances.

Friday and Saturday

After the Festival, the Basque club is now preparing one of the most waited events that gathers the most friends and visitors.  Activities will begin on Friday with a Basque dance at the Basque club.

Throughout the evening attendees will have the chance to enjoy typical dishes and a new performance by the Gazte Alai Dance Group.  Admission is free and open to the public and anyone interested in learning more about the Basque culture including members, friends, as well as tourists and visitors are welcome.

Meeting of 'tamborreros'

The festivity’s biggest day will be Saturday, with a dinner that will take place at the clubhouse.  The gastronomic attraction will be a large paella but be assured that many will come just for the Danborrada.

The Basque club is also counting on the participation of 'tamborreros' from other clubs/centers in Argentina namely from Mar del Plata, Bahia Blanca, Laprida or Buenos Aires, where there are also many fans of San Sebastian.
