Necochea’s Basque center has organized another edition of “Hator Hona-Come to Argentina,” a cultural exchange program that provides opportunities for youth from Euskadi (also from other countries of the Diaspora, see the article) to come to Argentina and teach the Basque language, pelota, and dance in Necochea. This is the seventh edition of Hator Hona and it will take place from July 15 to August 7, 2011. The program is available to all between the ages of 18 and 30 who would like to live with the youth of Necochea and share their knowledge of the Basque culture with them. The deadline to apply is May 13th.

Necochea, Argentina.  This is a unique opportunity and a very special way to visit Argentina, hosted by the Basque community in the city of Necochea, in the province of Buenos Aires.  The 2011 edition of “Hator-Hona- Come to Argentina” invites Basque youth who would like to share their culture while staying in Necochea for about a month.  Participants would teach the Basque language, pelota, txalaparta, and dance…whatever he/she knows best, to the youth of the Basque center.  This is the seventh edition of this program which has seen nearly fifty Basque youth create, and take along in their turn, unforgettable memories.

It's convenient to have a certain command of Spanish. But you mainly have to be familiar with the Basque culture. Participants have come always from the Basque Country, but having participants from other countries of the Diaspora can be interesting.

The program is meant for those between the ages of 18 and 30, and it will take place from July 15th to August 7, 2011.  Participants are responsible for their travel to Argentina, but once there, they will be hosted by local families.  The only requirement is to have knowledge of the Basque language, Basque music, Basque dance, Basque gastronomy, or Basque sports.  No degrees are required, only experience, knowledge and the willingness to come and teach.

This experience allows the youth of Necochea to renew links to the Basque culture and update themselves on what the Basque country is today.  On the other hand, those who travel to this city can personally experience the commitment that the Basques of Necochea have towards their culture which, at 11.000 kilometers of the Basque Country, has been maintained through love and much effort.

The deadline to apply is May 13, 2011.  The Basque center of Necochea has created a blog where all the information may be found: www.hatorhona.blogspot.com. All interested must apply online.
