This Saturday and Sunday the dock Quai Richelieu in Bordeaux will be filled with Basque festival atmosphere, thanks to activities organized by the Eskualdunen Biltzarra Basque club in conjunction with Heritage Day. Food, music and rural sports will be some of the highlights of the festival along with a walking tour of the city, for locals and visitors, to explore the strong Basque imprint in the city.

Bordeaux, France.  The Bordeaux Basque club is finalizing the last details of this weekend’s celebration, Heritage Day, for which it has prepared a full program of activities.  The heart will be at the dock Quai Richelieu where a Basque Market will be held along with Basque music and entertainment throughout the weekend.

Activities will begin on Saturday morning with the opening of the Basque Market, where food products from the Idoki Association, the pastry shop Minhondo and crafts by Gatucréation, will be available among others.  In addition, the Kuxkuxtu Txaranga (band) from Urruña (Lapurdi) will provide entertainment all day long.  The Market will be open from 10am-6pm on Saturday and from 10am to 3pm on Sunday.

Rural sports will also have a place with various exhibitions taking place on Saturday.  In the evening, around 8pm, the Bestalariak choir will give a free concert in the church St. Pierre with the festival continuing afterwards at the Basque clubhouse.

On Sunday, besides the Market, the club has organized a guided visit of Bordeaux where visitors, as well as locals, can discover the Basque heritage in the city.  The visit will be at 2pm at the Fronton S. Michel and will end at 5pm at the Submarine Base, where there will be a talk. Reservations are required for the walk and can be made by calling the Kiosque Culture (05 56 79 39 56).
