Last weekend was especially happy and cheerful within the Basque community in Southern California with the celebration of the wedding of two of their young, Jacqueline Gaton and Christopher Gardina, well known and active members of the American Basque community. It was a nice ceremony and friends of the bride, in their Basque dancer costumes, surprised her at the end with the arches to walk under. Jacqueline's family is from the village of Ezterenzubi, and Christopher's from Aldude and Gamarte, all of them in Lower Navarre. The couple will travel next month to Morocco and Europe and reach the Basque Country, where they will participate in December in a month long Basque language barnetegi. Zorionak, congratulations!

Carlsbad, United States. It was indeed a beautiful day. The wedding took place on Sunday, September 8 at the Catholic Church of St. Elizabeth Seton in Carsbad, California, a coastal town halfway between Chino and San Diego on Interstate 5. The couple are active members of the Basque community, specially Jacqueline, a Chino Gauden Bat dantzari, involved for years in the NABO Udaleku both as a camper and as an assistant instructor.

The ceremony was very moving, as were the vows they told each other. At the exit of the church Jacqueline's Gauden Bat fellow friends, dressed in their costumes, formed an arch through which the newlyweds left. At the reception, male dancers danced Banako for the bride and the women of the group did the same with San Juan for the groom.

They plan to visit Aldude and Ezterenzubi, where they will spend Christmas.

Jacqueline and Christopher met at the Basque picnic in Bakersfield, California, in May 2011 and got engaged in Chino Basque picnic in September 2012. Jacqueline's maternal grandparents are both from Ezterenzubi (Irigaray and Lanathoua), while the groom's rooths are in Aldude (Uharriet) and Gamarte (Irigoyen).
