Bordeaux’s Eskualdunen Biltzarra Basque club experienced a very emotional evening on November 25 thanks to the poetic/musical presentation, “Aita eta Ama maiteak.” The concert was performed by musicians Mixel Etxekopar, Cecile Tison and Jean Christian Gatxetaburu who read passages from letters written by Basque emigrants back home from Argentina set to music. The testimonies, some very raw, but full of feeling and real, made the audience very emotional during the concert.

Bordeaux, France.  The Bordeaux Basque club hosted musicians Mixel Etxekopar, Cecile Tison and Jean Christian Gatxetaburu who performed an intense concert with Basque emigration to Argentina as the central theme.  The show is called, “Aita eta Ama maiteak” (Dear Mom and Dad) as many letters from emigrants were addressed.

During the concert several real letters written in the 19 century were read, set to music.  The testimonies were often very emotional and sometimes very raw and hard, while others were endearing.  All of the letters read during the evening are part of an exhibit Euskaldunen Argentina (The Basques’ Argentina) of the Basque Cultural Institute in Iparralde - Euskal Kultur Erakundea.
